American Express Membership Reward Point Transfers to Frontier Airlines Ending on March 4, 2015

I just received an email from American Express regarding my AMEX PRG and AMEX Platinum Mercedes Benz credit cards with the ominous opening of “We are writing to provide you with an important notice regarding the account referenced above.”  Here are the 2 announcements from American Express.  I haven’t heard about this before, so I thought it was worth sharing for those of you who transfer Membership Reward Points to Frontier Airlines.

Frontier: Effective March 5, 2015, Frontier Airlines will no longer be a point transfer airline
in the Membership Rewards program. Any Membership Rewards point transfers for
Frontier Airlines must be made by March 4, 2015. These transfers will be considered final,
non-refundable, and subject to the EarlyReturns® program terms and conditions. To
transfer points to Frontier, please visit membershiprewards.com/travel.

For completeness, here is the other announcement regarding Membership Reward Point transfers to Delta Airlines:

Delta: We recently informed you of an annual limit on the number of Membership Rewards
points that you can transfer into the SkyMiles® Program. This change is canceled. There is
no annual limit to the number of points you can transfer to the SkyMiles Program.
Remember, you may only transfer a maximum of 999,000 points to a single SkyMiles
account per day.

Last but not least, I wanted to remind everyone that the 40% transfer bonus to British Airways Avios goes through January 31, 2015.  Click here to learn more about the transfer bonus.

Guest Post: 5 Card App-O-Rama (Diners Club, Club Carlson, US Airways, Southwest Airlines Plus, and Citizens Bank)

Good morning everyone, I hope you are having a great holiday season with your friends and family members.  Today, I have a guest post from my friend Nigel, where he is sharing his experience with his recent App-O-Rama.  Take it away Nigel…

In brief, an App-O-Rama (AOR) is a strategy in the miles/points community where an individual applies for multiple credit cards within a short period of time to maximize their odds of getting approved for multiple credit cards.  For me, this typically involves submitting four or more applications within seconds of each other in the hope that the banks don’t denied me for “too many inquires.”

With my Experian inquires starting to pile up from prior AORs, I wanted to limit this AOR to two Experian hits.  After doing some research on the Credit Boards credit pull database (link), I discovered that applications for the Diners Club Elite Credit Card have reliably resulted in a Transunion inquiry.  I was quite excited at the news, except there was one problem…

Access Centurion Lounges without your American Express Platinum Card

Greetings from the American Express Centurion Lounge in San Francisco.  I couldn’t think of a better place to hang out until my evening flight down to Orange County.  In my hurried packing this morning, I forgot to grab my American Express Platinum Card (and any other travel credit card or lounge card).  I was freaking out because I was going to get to SFO 2-3 hours before my flight and I didn’t want to hangout by the gate.

I was tempted to grab the BART back to Walnut Creek and walk home to get the card, but I was hoping there was a better solution.  I have an American Express phone number saved to my phone (I don’t remember which credit card it is for), so I called the number and pressed 0 a few times until I got a helpful representative on the phone.  I told him my problem and he was able to find my account by using my SSN.  He said that the American Express Platinum Line (800-525-3355) would be able to answer my question.

He transferred me and I told the second gentleman my problem.  He knew just what to do.  He told me to go to the Centurion Lounge and tell the front desk that I forgot my American Express Platinum Card.  They would be able to call a special number to verify my American Express Platinum Card membership and allow me to enter the Centurion Lounge.   Continue reading

Random News: IHG Set Your Sights Promo, 40% Transfer Bonus to British Airways, and AMEX Offers for Virgin America, Carters, and Healthy Back Store

Good afternoon everyone!  I love waking up in the morning and having a ton of new travel promos and offers to talk about, it makes my job a little easier.  The first offer I want to talk about is IHG’s new promo called Into the Nights Set Your Sights (link) (hat tip to Loyalty Traveler).  It is very similar in structure to the Into the Nights promo.  Here are my offers:

  • Book 5 nights at any IHG property
  • Book a Mini-Vacation Package (see image below)
  • Book and pay with a Chase IHG Rewards Credit Card
  • Book a stay with a Bonus Points Package

I must complete 3 out of 4 offers to get 33,100 bonus IHG points.

IHG Set Your Sights Offers

The problem (or possible opportunity) with booking the Mini-Vacation Package is that it is actually a timeshare presentation, not a mini vacation.  Usually when I think of a mini vacation, I do not think of sitting in a sales presentation for 1-2 hours, but that is just me.  IHG is trying to make your mini vacation / timeshare presentation as enticing as possible by offering you a 4 day / 3 night stay at one of their 6 vacation properties (Orlando, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Gatlinburg, Cape Canaveral, and Williamsburg) for only $199 + tax, with a $100 night credit or 20,000 IHG points (link).  Assuming you live/travel to an area with one of the 6 vacation properties, you might do pretty well.  Since you are required to attend the sales presentation, you must visit the property, you cannot call the front desk and tell them to virtually check you in.  I like your thinking though…
