Trip Booking Report: First and Business Class SNA-DFW-MAD-AGP with AA Miles on American Airlines and Iberia

This is my second installment of my Trip Booking Report series, where I show you how to find and book award flights.  My first booking was Trip Booking Report: LAX-DUS-BCN with AA Miles and MAD-MUC-LAX with UA Miles.

In this installment, I will *represent* how I booked 2 business class flights for my parents from Orange County (SNA) to Malaga, Spain (AGP) with American Airlines miles (dates and times have been changed to protect the innocent my parents).  Looking at AA’s award calendar for March shows plenty of business class seats from Orange County  to Madrid.

My Favorite Credit Cards for Manufactured Spend

My Favorite Credit Cards for Manufactured Spend

First off, I am not saying that these are the *best* credit cards for manufactured spend, these are just *my* favorite credit cards to use.  With that said, your travel patterns and preferences might be different than mine, so you might have different credit cards you like to use.  I guess I should also state what manufactured spend means to me:

  • Using your credit card for the sole purpose of earning miles, points, or cash back
  • Converting whatever you purchased back into “cash”
  • The amount of “cash” lost during the transactions should exceed the “value” of the miles, points, or cash back you received from using the credit card

Without further ado, here are my favorite credit cards…  Continue reading

Pop Quiz: Chase Ink Bold Retention Bonus – 10,000 Chase Ultimate Reward Points or $95 Statement Credit?

Pop Quiz: Chase Ink Bold Retention Bonus – 10,000 Chase Ultimate Reward Points or $95 Statement Credit?

One of my friends asked me about Chase Ink Bold retention bonuses this afternoon.  I told him I asked for my $95 annual fee to be waived and Chase responded by issuing a $95 statement credit to my account (see original post).  My friend told me that he was only given one retention bonus offer: spend $5,000 in 3 months and receive 10,000 Chase Ultimate Reward Points.  Since that was the only offer given to my friend, he took the retention bonus.  My question to you (all of you are my students, I am your sensei), if you were give the option to take a $95 statement credit or complete the spending bonus, which would you pick?

Answer now before going on…

Minor Blog Update: Reorganized Pages into New Subheaders

I just wanted to let you guys know that I updated some of the links tonight to reflect my new blog subheaders.  I hope the new headers make it easier to find the pages you are looking for.  I use a redirect plugin which should automatically convert the old links to the new links, so if everything works as it is supposed to, you *shouldn’t* have any problems.  Without further ado, here is what the new subheader arrangement will be (scroll to the top of the page to see for yourself):

TWG New Subheaders

Please let me know if If you do find links that do not redirect properly and I will fix them as soon as possible.

For those blog readers who are relatively new to my site, you might want to take a look around at some of the subheaders for some really good information.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.   Continue reading

How to Cancel or Refund British Airways Avios Award Tickets

(Previous Post: How to Book British Airways Avios Award Tickets)

In this how-to guide, I will show you how to cancel or refund a British Airways Avios award ticket.  In my demo, I will cancel an American Airlines flight, but the steps below will work with US Airways, British Airways, and most OneWorld Alliance airlines.  Most Avios award tickets should be cancellable online, but there may be times when you will have to call their customer service department and speak with a representative.

Call British Airways at 1-800-452-1201 or 1-800-247-9297 (prepare yourself for long wait times and busy signals, just be patient and persistent).

Let’s say I booked an American Airlines flight, but it turns out that I won’t be able to make the trip.  Not a problem, just go back to the online booking page and scroll to the bottom of the page.

I will be in Utah (Salt Lake City, Utah –> Price, Utah –> Moab, Utah) this weekend for Memorial Day weekend, so I probably won’t post anything over the weekend.  Have a great weekend everyone!
