(Hat Tip to Will @ Doctor of Credit for alerting me about the Chime Card).
This is an interesting card, sort of a hybrid between Plink and AMEX Offers for You. Let that “sync” in for a little bit. However, unlike Plink and AMEX Offers for You, you do not need to add the offers to your wallet or save the offers to your account to participate in Chime’s offers. In addition, you do not get paid in Plink Points, instead, you receive instant cash back right on your Chime Card. Take a look at these offers (offers available as of 7/8/2014):
There are 2 types of offers:
- Spend $X, Get $Y Back – these offers are very similar to AMEX Offers for You. Use your Chime Card at select merchants, make a purchase greater than or equal to the spend amount and you will receive instant cash back to your Chime Card.
- Free $X Store Credit – these are like store gift cards with $X balances. Use your Chime Card at select merchants and receive an instant discount. If you have $5 in store credit and make a purchase less than $5, your Chime Card balance will not decrease. Your store credit is valid until you spend the full amount or the offer expires. This is like free money. I like the store credit offers.
A closer look at some offers:
Spend $50 or more at Target and get a $10 cash back bonus to your Chime Card. $50 Target Gift Card for $40, anyone interested?
Similar offer at Sports Authority, but this time only a $5 cash back bonus after spending $25. Do you need any pool tools or hiking shoes this summer?
$2 Subway Gift Card just for visiting Subway. I’ll take a $5.00 $3.00 foot long please.
I used my Chime Card at Walmart and received $1.00 back to celebrate my first purchase. I bought $100 in groceries from Kate and entered my PIN to complete the transaction.
A confirmation email from Chime arrived as well.
One more important thing to mention is how you can add funds to your Chime Card. Currently, you can add funds from a debit card (gift cards do not work), a bank transfer (ACH), or a direct deposit. Since Chime is a debit card, it has a PIN and can be used at ATMs.
For debit cards, the PayPal Business Debit Card works and you earn cash back from PayPal. You can only load up to $200 per day with any debit card.
Sign Up Link (I will receive a $10 statement credit if you sign up and fund your Chime Card with $50 or more).
I greatly appreciate your support if you use my sign up link. However, please do not share your referral link in the comments, I want to keep the comments section only for genuine questions and comments.

Would using the Chime card to buy money orders at Walmart, or to load the Target Amex, qualify for cash back?
I would say yes to Target AMEX since that is run as a credit card purchase. Not sure about MOs at WM. I would think no.
Signed up thru your link as a thank you for all your helpful posts on twitter
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoy following me on Twitter.
Can you load money to Chime card by credit card?
No credit card unfortunately.
Thanks for the tip Grant. I just signed up via your link.
It seems like we’re seeing more and more cards popping up which is great for us. Though the whole Visa gift card thing is fun and profitable, I must admit that I get more enjoyment from finding ways to make deals like these and those from Amex work for me.
How long did it take to receive your Chime card?
It took about 5-6 days to arrive, not sure if the 4th if July weekend had anything to do with that though. I enjoy these money making deals too.
Some of the deals are geographically targeted (for example, I don’t have in-and-out burger or BJs). Did you do any of the transactions as pin debit and have them work ? I went to Walmart, Target, Gap, Victorias Secret, Old Navy and best buy and ran them all through as credit out of an abundance of caution, and all except Gap worked automatically – Gap showed up as “GapUSA” and I had to email them to get it fixed.
Thanks for the data points TJ. I’m not sure if you can do credit and debit and earn the cash back. I assume the transactions are credited the same either way (merchant name), so it might work. I haven’t experimented with any merchants yet.
What about fees?
I think the only fee is for inactivity. But if your account has a $0 balance, you wouldn’t pay any fees.
What are the ways to get funds off the card? Is there an option to transfer to bank account if you no decide you need the money back?
I think you can only spend the money off the card or withdraw cash from an ATM. The Chime Card comes with a PIN.
Thanks for the info; this sounds pretty sweet! I signed-up through your link.
Thank you Mike. I hope your Chime Card comes soon and that you can save/make a few bucks.
Tried to sign up for Chime through your referral link. Verified my e-mail twice through your link but still no e-mail from Chime to open account. Been hours. May have to sign up directly with them.
Hmm, I’m not sure what is happening with Chime. Maybe they are updating their servers right now. Can you download the app and log in with your username and password? If it lets you log in, your account should have been created. Please let me know what happens.
Still no e-mail from Chime, so no password. Tried again right now through your link. It asks for my e-mail which I gave again and then it accepts the e-mail and just takes me to essentially a blank page with their logo. I’m not in a hurry so I’ll wait for a confirmation e-mail from them. Maybe it is their servers. Would like for you to get the $$. Your blog is great and has made me a few $$ myself. Happy to pay some back through a referral.
If you still haven’t gotten the email, you might want to try to sign up from a different browser or from your smartphone. Sometimes websites are strange like that. I can only log onto Citi and AA.com from Chrome Incognito mode. Who knows why.

So does that mean it costs $2.50 each time I use it to make a purchase? Or only for a “cash” withdrawal?? “Refers to both transactions made at an ATM and Over-The-Counter “OTC” withdrawals.”
This is a bit tricky. If you use your card to buy groceries and get cash back, it should be a free transaction. If you get cash out of an ATM, then there will be a charge. If you make a purchase that is not PIN-based, then you will earn cash back and there will not be a charge.

If you told the US Postal Service that you are moving, they should automatically redirect your mail to the new address.

I just signed up with your link. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Gubugi! You should receive your Chime Card in 7-10 days. I hope you enjoy using the card and saving money. If you have a PayPal Business Debit Card, you can use that card to load funds to your Chime Card and earn cash back :)
Can I fund Chime with a Bluebird card?
The post says your referral link is only good through 8/15, now expired. Is there another link for the $10 referral credit?
You can only fund the Chime Card with a Visa or MasterCard debit card. Visa and MasterCard gift cards will not work. The best card to use is the PayPal debit card to earn cash back. The Chime referral link still works, I will just need to update the graphic. Thanks Scott!

Have you used green dots to fund your chime card, or only the PP business debit card? Thanks…
Only the PayPal Debit Card. I’ve never bought a Green Dot card in my life.
Thanks, good to know. Do you fund the maximum, or do you change up the amounts? I am wondering if PP might not look so kindly on funding Chime and could spark an account shut down…
I load $100 per day to my Chime Card. I earn cash back on the purchase, which means that PayPal is getting a swipe fee and making money on each transaction. Since PayPal is making money, I don’t think they will give me problems.
Does it necessary to have the same name on the debit Card and Chime Card before funding the Chime Card or any of my friend can help me add funds through their debit card with my name and address on the Chime Card?
As long as you are using an active debit card I think it will work.
Which bank debit card is really good to add funds or it doesn’t mean to use bank debit card because I have usbank contour debit card and it doesn’t work out.
I recommend using the PayPal Business Debit Card to earn cash back on your loads.

how can I get PayPal Business Debit Card because I don’t have one at the moment
It doesn’t matter to earn cash back on my loads that’s why i’m just looking for the perfect one to use to add funds
Use any debit card then or connect your checking account to your Chime Card.
what’s good use of this card now they’re saying they will charge 3% upload fee from paypal MC ?
Use your PayPal Business Debit Card now through Oct 8. After that, I’m not sure. It might not be worth it if you have to pay the 3% fee.
Do we know for sure that PayPal will fall under the three percent rule in October since it is a pretty big financial company…maybe it will fall under the same category as wells and chase?
No one knows for sure, but from the people that have a PPBDC linked to their Chime Card account, they all see that message. I haven’t tried using my credit union debit card with Chime, so I don’t know. I think the big banks will be fine though.

Not sure if this have been asked already. Since this is a preloaded debit card, I assume there’s no credit check required?
No hard pull (credit check), just a soft pull verifying your SSN matches your name.
