Are you an Uber fan? Or maybe you’re Uber’s biggest critic? Or maybe you’ve had mixed experience with the ride-sharing economy. I’d put myself in this last category.
A buddy of mine is a ride-sharing expert, who not only drives for Uber and Lyft, but he also teaches courses to other drivers, helping them navigate the business aspects of ride-sharing.
I’ve got an interview set up with him, but I wanted to get your input on what questions YOU would like answered. I’ll be asking him questions about:
- His driving experience (the good, the bad & especially the ugly)
- The driver rating and tipping systems
- The dreaded surge pricing (boo!)
- Is Uber/Lyft a viable business for drivers?
If you were the one talking with a ride-sharing expert, what questions would you ask him? Let me know in the comments below! I will summarize his answers and share the results in a future blog post. Stay tuned and buckle up!

I just paid $89 for a 1/2 hour Uber ride to JFK at 9:15 am. Uber had it targeted as a 1 hour 45 minute ride so I think I was soaked. What could I have done to refute this?
I believe rides from JFK to NYC are cheaper (more price control), but rides from NYC to JFK have more price flexibility. I took a short Uber ride to a nearby subway station, then the subway to JFK Airtrain station and then got on the Airtrain to my terminal. I believe that is one of the cheapest ways to get to JFK.
I was in the burbs, Oyster Bay. The same may hold true there as to/from NYC.
I feel your pain, Pam. Something similar happened to me recently in San Diego. So great question and we’ll ask our expert and let you know.
After factoring in all expenses, how much do UBER drivers really make per hour?
Great question. I don’t know the answer, but probably a whole lot more than the Uber drivers make in Bogota. I took a 30 minute ride and it cost ~$4 USD.
HI Jed! Great question, and one that I posed to our expert. We’ll have the post with all his answers up ASAP. Stay tuned!
