With both the holidays and winter upon us, travelers are heading to Hawaii. Warm weather, beautiful scenery, beaches and great restaurants make for a great time. I often write about Hawaii, what to see, where to drink coffee and of course where to eat. Just the other day a friend asked me for some restaurant recommendations. I figure why should he be the only one I share my current restaurant favorites with :)
Here are five of my current favorites:
Rangoon (Chinatown) – A new Burmese restaurant from the folks who own Dagon on King Street. Amazing tastes. $$
Livestock Tavern (Chinatown) – New American food to die for. $$$
Senia (Chinatown) – The current hoidy-toidy foodie destination with those pitifully small portions and extremely high prices BUT… worth every penny. $$$$$
Vein (Kakaako) – A new farm-to-table restaurant with excellent food and a quite unfortunate name. $$$
Jade Garden (Kaimuki) – Excellent Thai $$
Enjoy your Hawaii holiday whether it’s coming up soon or sometime next year. I have a feeling these restaurants will be there whenever you visit the islands!
Pig and the Lady can’t get any love?!
Allen, Thanks for adding P&L to the list. So many good places to eat, so little time :) Vietnamese food is definitely one of my favorites.
Allen, You didn’t mention if you’d actually been to Pig & The Lady. It’s been in the news lately and getting lots of press. http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2018/11/20/kurt-russell-has-been-pig-ladys-kurt-russell-bathroom/ And just so readers know, the food is excellent, but it’s a VERY noisy place so go prepared.
There are 3 Roy’s on Oahu! ;)
True! The one in Hawaii Kai for the ocean ambiance, but Ko’Olina is my go to Roy’s because I love to watch the golfers finish on the 18th hole.
Since 1956 a local Oahu favorite is Wally Ho’s Garage and Grill. We visited Oahu earlier this month en route to French Polynesia and was met in Oahu by long time friend and 12 year Oahu resident Scott. He took us to his go to (Wally Ho’s) Oahu restaurant for lunch . Wonderfully tasty local Hawaiian cuisine and at very reasonable prices. Please see:

Good choice, Wes, thanks. Aiea is a bit off the beaten path for visitors to Oahu, so I was looking to keep the list closer to Waikiki.
We love Nico’s Pier, down by the fishing docks. Their fresh fish is the best and they have some great lunch combo’s that are so good.
Thanks for adding Nico’s to the list, Lara. Good choice!
