Good afternoon everyone, I hope you had a great weekend and are excited for Halloween later this week. For better or worse, I am the kind of person that hates to let airline miles, hotel points, free night certificates, and companion fares expire. I can now add casino rewards to that list.
Over the last month, I have tried to figure out the “most efficient way” to redeem my 1,816 Caesars Reward Credits (worth ~$18) without going to Las Vegas. Laura and I were in Las Vegas for Memorial Day Weekend to complete a few casino status matches and watch 2 Cirque Du Soleil shows. For that trip, I transferred 60,000 Wyndham Rewards Points into 60,000 Caesars Reward Credits and redeemed 58,678 points to cover the $586.78 room charge (read this post). The remaining 1,816 Caesars Reward Credits were set to expire 6 months later on December 2, 2024.
In this post, I will share the journey I went on to redeem or extend these 1,816 orphaned Caesars Reward Credits along with some helpful tips for anyone in the same situation.
Every calendar year, you can transfer up to 60,000 Wyndham Rewards Points into 60,000 Caesars Reward Credits, in 10,000 point increments. Unfortunately, I already maxed out the transfer limit earlier in 2024, so I couldn’t transfer more points into my Caesars account.
Every calendar year, you can transfer up to 30,000 Caesars Reward Credits into 30,000 Wyndham Rewards Points, in 5,000 point increments. Unfortunately, I didn’t have more than 5,000 Caesars Reward Credits to transfer to my Wyndham Rewards account.
I then went to the Earn & Redeem section of Caesars Rewards and saw that you can earn 1 Reward Credit and 1 Tier Credit for every $3 wagered on horse racing through Caesars Racebook (website, iOS app, and Android app). Caesars Racebook is only accessible to residents in certain states, including CA, CO, CT, FL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MN, MT, ND, NY, OH, OR, PA, VA, WA, WV, WY.
I downloaded the Caesars Racebook app, created an account, and linked it to my Caesars Rewards account. Once your Caesars Reward account is linked, you can convert 100 Caesars Reward Credits into $1 of Free Race Play. I then went through the process to redeem 1,800 points for $18 of free play.
After I completed the redemption process, I had $18 of free play to use and only 16 Caesars Reward Credits left (worth ~16 cents).
Unfortunately, the 16 Caesars Reward Credits were still set to expire on December 2, 2024.
The only way to “cash out” your free play is to bet, so I placed $1 bets on 18 horses across 7 races. I knew nothing about horse racing before placing the bets and still know nothing about horse racing except for the fastest horse is the winner. For the races where I bet at least $3, I earned 1 Reward Credit and 1 Tier Credit. As luck would have it, I picked 2 winning horses and won $1 million $12.80. I also earned 1 Reward Credit and 1 Tier Credit on those winning bets too.
A few days later, my Caesars Reward account was updated to reflect the 7 Tier Credits and 7 Reward Credits I earned. The 7 Reward Credits extended the expiration date of my credits by another 6 months to April 27, 2025.
Back on the Caesars Racebook app, you can withdraw your funds via a check in the mail or via an Electronic Funds Transfer. You cannot withdraw free play via check or Electronic Funds Transfer (I tried). If you want a check, you need to print out the withdrawal slip, fill out the form, and mail the form to Caesars.
Alternatively, you can withdraw your funds via the Electronic Funds Transfer after you add and verify a bank account (this is the option I used). The transfer was processed quickly and the funds posted to my checking account a few days later.
After I went through the entire process, I realized that I could have just redeemed 300 Caesars Reward Credits for $3 of free play in Caesars Racebook and made a $3 bet on a race. Regardless if I won or lost, I would have earned at least 1 Reward Credit and 1 Tier Credit, which would have been enough to extend my remaining Caesars Reward Credits by another 6 months. If you are lucky, you may even turn that $3 bet into $1 Million $3.20 (like me). As far I can tell, there was no way to convert money from Caesars Racebook back into Caesars Reward Credits, which would be a nice feature.
