Set up Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Account after Receiving SPG Credit Card

If you signed up for the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) card on the first day of the 30,000 SPG Starpoints offer, you should receive your card sometime this week.  My dad applied on the first day (August 6) and got his card today (August 13).  Unlike many travel-related credit cards, your account number is not printed on the SPG Card.  To find the number, you need to log into your American Express account.  If your SPG card does not automatically show up in your account, you can add it by clicking on the blue arrow that says More Account Options and then click Register Cards for Online Access.

Add Amex Card

Then just enter the numbers from your SPG Card.   Continue reading

Vancouver Vacation: Beware of Booking WestJet Flights on Delta.com

Westjet Loves Delta

Vancouver Vacation Trip Reports:

I am not sure how many of you have flown from Vancouver, BC to Los Angeles, CA, but WestJet has a few flights per day at good prices.

WestJet ITA

In case you are not familiar with WestJet, they are the second largest Canadian airline behind Air Canada and the ninth largest airline in North America (thank you wikipedia).  They are, however, not affiliate with any airline alliance.  For that reason, I was surprised to see WestJet flights bookable on Delta.com.

I used my American Express Delta Credit Card to book 4 WestJet tickets (3 tickets are in a cheaper fare class than the last ticket).  Total charged to the credit card was $839.19.  Read My Delta American Express Credit Card was Stolen… from my Front Door? to find out what happened to my credit card before I booked these tickets. My Delta American Express Credit Card was Stolen… from my Front Door?

CC Thief

Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?  After completing my June app-o-rama (applying for several credit cards on the same day), I was pleased to be approved for a Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express.  I was told by American Express that they would send me my new American Express Delta Credit Card by UPS and that I should have it within 1-2 business days.  After 2 business days had passed, I decided to wait one more day before calling American Express.  At the end of the third business day, I still had no credit card.  Had they sent it via USPS First Class Mail instead?  Maybe. So I called American Express to find out what was going on.   Continue reading
