American Express Serve Card Bulk Account Shutdowns / Terminations

Black Friday!  No, not the busiest shopping day of the year, but the day AMEX Serve sent out mass account closure emails with the subject line “Termination Of Funds Loading Capabilities on Your Serve® Account.”  My account was flagged due to “observed unusual usage patterns.”  I will explain what I was doing below, but here is what my email looks like:

Upcoming Meetups and Travel Conferences (July 23 through December 6)

Good morning everyone, happy Amazon Prime Day!  I couldn’t sleep last night, so I bought a new AmazonBasics 12-Sheet High-Security Micro-Cut Shredder at 3am and then I read Doctor of Credit’s post about Amazon eGift Cards on sale and bought those too.  If you do purchase anything today, please consider using my Amazon affiliate link.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Happy 20th birthday Amazon!

Anyway, with the recent news about FTU Advanced Newport Beach, I thought I would list all the meetups and travel conferences that I will be attending throughout the end of the year.  These are in chronological order and there may/may not be tickets left to purchase.

Let’s start with a local meetup in San Francisco.  This group is relative new, but the turnout of 30-50 people is impressive.  They have formal presentations once a month and then breakout discussions afterwards.  The organizers of this meetup are very passionate and knowledgeable.

  • Where: San Francisco, California (Meetup page)
  • When: Thursday, July 23 @ 7PM

Reminder: I am hosting a Miles and Points Meetup today (March 14) in San Francisco at 12pm.  If you are interested in joining me and other miles and points collectors, please read this post.

(Hat Tip to Miles to Memories)

Good morning everyone, I have some bad news.  For those of you with an American Express Serve Card (or SoftServe Card), you will only be able to use American Express credit cards for online reloads starting April 16.  According to this sentence on Serve’s website (link):

Note: Starting April 16, 2015 you will only be able to use an American Express® Card if you want to load your account with a credit card. Discover, MasterCard and Visa credit cards will no longer be supported after April 16.

My Review of FTU Advanced San Diego and Tacos el Gordo

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  Myself and approximately 200 other miles and points “collectors” gathered at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego this past weekend.  We had several speakers from Boarding Area (Greg @ Frequent Miler, Ben/Lucky @ One Mile at a Time, Gary @ View from the Wing, Scott @ Travel Codex, and Stefan @ Rapid Travel Chai) along with Mathew @ Upgrd.  The event began Friday night with a cocktail reception out on the lawn and it was my first chance to meet the other attendees.  I must confess, I had appetizers in the Regency Club before the reception and went back afterwards for some dessert.  The food in the Regency Club was very fresh and the desserts were delicious.

Missed News and my CLEAR Card Enrollment Experience

Good morning everyone, dang, I take one day off from blogging to finish my taxes (such a pain in the butt) and I miss out some big miles and points developments.  I guess sometime between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, there was an issue loading Redbird/Bluebird/Serve Cards and even logging into your account.  I was able to load the last $1,500 onto my Redbird Card last night, so everything seems back to normal.  I looked around my Redbird account and looked for new features, but didn’t see anything new.  Frequent Miler has the latest info.
