Should Chase Update it’s Chase Ink Business Credit Card Commercial?

This post is not related to travel, but every time I watch the Chase Ink Bold Business Credit Card commercial about the Paper Cottage, I think Chase needs to do another commercial about what really happens to its Chase Ink Business Credit Cards.  For those unfamiliar with the commercial:

If they made a commercial about me and my Ink Bold Business Credit Card, it might sound something like this:

Hi everyone, I use my Ink Bold card to buy $200 gift cards at Staples.  Staples is an office supply store and earns 5 Chase Ultimate Reward Points per dollar.  Factoring in the $6.95 activation fee and subtracting the $3.00 in Plink Points, I am able to get 1,035 Chase Ultimate Reward Points for $3.95, or 0.0038 cents per point.  I then transfer those points to United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, British Airways, Hyatt Hotels, or Marriott Hotels and travel the world in style for only a few bucks.

I then take my $200 gift cards to Walmart and load to my Bluebird Card.  Bluebird is a prepaid reloadable debit card and comes from American Express.  I really like Chase and American Express.  After convincing the cashier to load my Bluebird Card with a gift card, I then log into my Bluebird account, and pay off my Chase Ink Bold card.

What could be simpler?

Thanks Chase Ink, I love you!

Now that is a commercial I want to see!  P.S. this is a #TBBApproved post with no affiliate links :)

Plink Points not Posting Promptly? No Problem.

Plink Points not Posting Promptly?  No Problem.

So you signed up for Plink, you registered your Chase Ink credit card, you added Staples to your Plink Wallet, and you bought some Visa / MasterCard gift cards at Staples.  Stop me if this sounds familiar?

Where the heck are your Plink points?!?!

You log into your Plink account 1 day, 2 days, 5 days, 7 days later and still no Plink points.  What is going on?

Where the heck are your Plink points?!?!

Just relax, take a deep breath and follow these steps.  Log into your Plink account and scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Contact Us link.

Hyatt’s Fall 5,000 Point Promo Earns Me the Southwest Companion Pass

A few weeks ago I wrote Targeted: 5,000 Bonus Hyatt Gold Passport Points After Spending $3,000 in 3 Months.  Today, I share my journey.  I received the following email (and a similar letter) from Hyatt regarding my Chase Hyatt Credit Card.

Hyatt Fall 5K Bonus

Spending $3,000 in 3 months is a piece of cake to earn 5,000 bonus Hyatt points.  My credit card statement closed a few days ago and I was glad the bonus points posted in the same time period, not the 6-8 week time window the terms stated.  Since I recently downgraded my Chase Sapphire Preferred Credit Card to the Sapphire basic card, I have been using my Hyatt card more for international restaurant purchases and making airline reservations.

4 Plink Accounts + 4 Ink Cards = 1,035 Free UR Points and $2.55 Profit

4 Plink Accounts + 4 Ink Cards = 1,035 Free UR Points and $2.55 Profit

Plink is an online website where you earn Plink Points (worth 1 cent each in terms of gift cards) for shopping at certain merchants with certain credit cards.  Currently, you can earn 300 Plink Points (worth $3.00 in gift cards) for shopping at Staples and using your linked (or should I say “Ink”ed) card and spending more than $60 in a single transaction.

Staples Plink

Let’s image a world without Plink.  All you have is a Chase Ink card, a Staples store, and want to purchase a $200 gift card.  The total price is $206.95.  You earn 5 UR Points with your Ink card for a total of 1,035 UR Points for $6.95 = 0.67 cents per point.  Pretty good deal right?

Now let’s image a world with Plink.  Sign up for Plink and register your Chase Ink card (you can only link 1 credit card per account).  Now repeat the above steps.  Your total is still $206.95 and you earn 1,035 UR Points.  Now include the $3.00 in Plink points in your activation fee, which lowers your activation costs to $3.95 ($6.95 – $3.00).  1,035 UR Points for $3.95 = 0.38 cents per point.  Even better right?

Here is my math:

Card Value Card Cost Net Cost UR Points Plink Points CPP Profit
$200.00 $6.95 $206.95 1,035 $0.00 $0.67 $0.00
$200.00 $6.95 $206.95 1,035 $3.00 $0.38 $0.00

Now that you have a couple million Plink Points, it is very easy to redeem for gift cards.  They have Amazon gift cards which are arguably the best gift cards to choose.

Order is complete as soon as you click one of the green circles.

New Plink Balance

As soon as you order your Amazon gift card, the Plink points are deducted from your account.

Plink Transactions

I received an email from Plink in a few minutes with the gift card code.

Plink $15 Amazon GC

Adding the gift card balance to my Amazon account is quick and easy.

A Bunch of Random Credit Card News

On Thursday, Chase started issuing new Chase Sapphire Preferred credit cards with the new EMV (chip and signature).  To request your new card, call the number on the back of your current Chase Sapphire Preferred (no chip and signature for the Sapphire basic card).  They will UPS Next Day Air the card to you.  The account number, expiration date, and 3 digit CVV code on the back all stay the same.  Chip and Signature is slightly better than a regular magnetic strip card, but not nearly as good as true Chip and Pin.  Because the Chip does not contain a PIN, you will need to sign for every purchase with a signature, hence the name Chip and Signature.  In some cases, like train stations in Europe, the Chip and Signature card actually works when a normal credit card would not.  For example, in Amsterdam, my Chase Hyatt Credit Card (with Chip and Signature) worked in the train ticket machine when my Chase Sapphire Preferred card (pre Chip and Signature card) did not.  Also, since I recently downgraded to the Sapphire basic card, I am literally the only one in my house that doesn’t have the new Chip and Signature card :(
