Greetings from Copenhagen everyone!  I had a great time at the Airline Interiors Expo (AIE/AIX) in Hamburg earlier this week and flew up to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH) on a cheap $100 flight via SAS.  I’m currently staying at the Hilton Copenhagen by the airport and it is a lovely hotel, 5 minute walk from the airport and a 2 minute walk to the adjoining metro station.  Before I share some pictures of the hotel, here is what I did today (hint: drinking beer).

I don’t always look like that, but when I do, it’s because I am standing in front of a brewery.

I got to the hotel around 11am and I was glad that let me check in early.  The nice lady behind the desk said my 2 favorite words “Double Upgrade” and moved me to a big room on the executive floor with access to the executive lounge.

Shopkick is a loyalty rewards program that rewards users for visiting certain stores, for spending certain amounts in-store, and for scanning in-store items.  You will need a smartphone and the ability to download the Shopkick app to your smartphone.  Shopkick is free to use and you can earn free gift cards by redeeming your Shopkick Kicks (points).  Kicks are earned on top of any other rewards you currently earn, such a credit card rewards or cash back.  Shopkick works by using your smartphone to detect when you enter certain stores.  To learn more about Shopkick, please read these pages:

My Exciting Day: New Office Depot, 20,000 Point Plink Winner?, and Amazon Gift Cards in Stock

I’m sure your day was just as exciting as mine, but here is how it went…

There is a new Office Depot store that just opened near me so I went to check it out…

And I see the gift card rack, all full of gift cards.  Those $200 Visa gift cards are hard to find at the other Office Depot stores in town.  I looked at both sides of the gift card rack and didn’t see any special wording about using cash for certain gift cards.  So I take a OneVanilla gift card to the check out counter and try to load $500 to it.  Unfortunately the register is not working properly, saying “Card Declined” – after just scanning the barcode on the back of the gift card.  Manager comes over and tries, but no luck.  I go back to the gift card rack and try to buy a $200 fixed value gift card, but the same error message shows up.  Ughh, it must be the system.  I will try back again later this week, but I’m sure they will have blocked the $500 cards from being purchased with a credit card by then.  Continue reading →

I got this letter from Chase alerting me that my Chase IHG Rewards Club Visa will soon be replaced by a Chase IHG Rewards Club World MasterCard.  Technically, if you cancel the Visa card, you can sign up and receive the sign up bonus on the MasterCard.  It appears that you have to close your Visa before April 1, otherwise you will automatically be issued the MasterCard and miss out on getting another sign up bonus.
