Random News: My BACon14 Journey, World of Coca Cola, Dick’s Last Resort, 38 Cent Luxor Winnings, LAS Centurion Lounge, and Several New Chime and AMEX Offers
Good evening everyone! I am sorry for not writing anything over the last few days, I’ve been really busy working at the Airline Passenger Experience Expo (APEX) in Anaheim last week and then going to Las Vegas on the weekend for BACon14 (Boarding Area Conference 2014). If you want to see what all your favorite Boarding Area / Prior 2 Boarding bloggers were doing this past weekend, check out the #bacon14 on Twitter (link).
First off, this is Randy Peterson, the “godfather” of miles and points. He founded FlyerTalk, MilePoint, Boarding Area, and several other miles/points websites and services. Without him, who knows what any of us would be doing. You certainly wouldn’t be reading my blog and I certainly wouldn’t be writing my blog if it weren’t for Randy. If you ever get the opportunity to meet him, go up to him, introduce yourself and thank him for everything he has done for our community.
P.S. It was Randy’s birthday this weekend. Happy birthday Randy!
The best part of BACon14 was putting blog names to faces and speaking to some of my fellow bloggers face to face for the first time (not just tweeting with them occasionally). Regardless of the persona each blogger gives off on their blog, meeting them and speaking to them was very special. I learn something new every time I speak to them. That is the great thing about the miles/points community, there is always something new to learn.
Speaking of learning something new, all the bloggers were invited to the Mix Lounge on the top floor of the Delano hotel. I learned that the men’s restroom has a beautiful view of the Mandalay Hotel and Pool. Just beautiful!
I will go into my detail later this week in other posts, but here are some of my BACon14 highlights…
While visiting the World of Coca Cola on the Strip, I listened the sticker’s advice…
…and bought myself a $3 Coke Float. Probably the best deal in Vegas. What else can you buy for $3? Probably nothing!
My friend Rhianna (aka the most beautiful soft drink beverage server) tried 16 different Coca Cola products from around the world. Warning, some of those drinks are disgusting, I’m looking at you Beverly from Italy! Yuk!
We also had dinner at Dick’s Last Resort (a restaurant that prides itself on insulting customers).
I must be part magician since I turned $20 into 38 cents in a matter of minutes. Taa daaa!
It wasn’t a total loss, I earned 1,173 Mlife credits. Does anyone know what can I buy with 1,173 Mlife credits?
On my way home, I stopped at the American Express Centurion Lounge (located in Terminal D). Inside, I got to meet a few other Prior 2 Boarding bloggers.
- Edward – Efficient Asian Man
- Adam – Fly2Travel
- Dominik – Travelling the World
- Jennifer – The Jetsetter’s Homestead
- Shawn – Miles to Memories
To be honest, I was a little dissapointed by the lounge experience. It was not the lounge’s fault, I think all the hype made me have super high expectations that were impossible to meet. I will reserve judgement until I get to experience the Centurion Lounge in Dallas.
There are a few new offers from Chime that showed up in my account today. The Subway deal looks like the best deal to me. Learn more about the Chime Card here.
Here are a few new AMEX Offers that showed up in my American Express account today:
