Hunch: Is Citi Increasing Credit Limits on Other Cards for Customers Losing Citi Hilton Credit Cards?

Good morning everyone, greetings from the beautiful, tropical, peaceful Andaz Papagayo in Liberia, Costa Rica.  I have a quite a lot of blog posts to get to before I can share my review of this hotel, but (spoiler alert!) this hotel is amazing!  Lots of pictures to come from that upcoming hotel review.  Anyway, back to today’s topic at hand.  Is Citi increasing credit limits on some of their credit cards for customers who are losing a Citi Hilton credit card to American Express?  Short answer: I have no idea, this is just a hunch, so I may be completely wrong.  I have 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card, each with $10,000 credit limits, that are in the process of being converted to American Express Hilton Ascend Credit Cards.  Since there is no way for me to touch the $10,000 credit limit on either of my 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards, I am going to lose $20,000 in credit limit from Citi, which represents more than 50% of my total credit limit with Citi.

With that being said, I just received the following email from Citi regarding the credit limit on my Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card.  This credit card went from a $5,000 credit limit up to to an $8,000 credit limit, but that is neither my oldest Citi credit card or the Citi credit card that I use the most (this credit card actually gets no love anymore since I now use my Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card for all of my travel expenses).

If Citi were to increase all my credit limits on all my other Citi credit cards, by a total of $20,000, then I could directly point to the $20,000 credit limit loss of my 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards.  But, as of today (1/19/2018), I have only gotten 1 $3,000 credit limit increase.  None of my other Citi credit cards have had a credit limit increase.  Maybe Citi is slowing doling out the credit limit increases, or maybe this is just a coincidence and a nice gift from Citi.  I have not requested a credit limit increase from Citi either (Citi may or may not do a hard pull when you request a credit limit increase).  Have any readers received a similar email from Citi regarding a credit limit increase?  If you have any hunches or questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Anxiously waiting for your review of the Andaz especially the cost of food which I have read can be outrageous since no other options nearby and the beach is not a “real” beach per CS standard..

How much was your credit limit increase? Was this in the last week? I have Citi Double Cash CC too, but no credit limit increase for me.

Very interesting. Now I have no idea what Citi is doing. Do you use your Citi Prestige CC often? Were you spending close to your credit limit before they increased your credit limit?

I sure hope that Citi will do some adjustments, after talking with them last year and hearing them say that I was at their maximum exposure. Now, with ~$38k “going” to Amex, I hope that they reconsider.
