Good morning everyone. If you are short on miles and points, sometimes it can make sense to buy miles and points to top up your account balance so you have enough miles or points for a redemption. If you are looking for American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, IHG or SPG miles/points, you are in luck. All of these loyalty programs are offering promotions when you buy miles/points, but they all end May 31. If you are interested in any other buy miles or points promotions, I keep an up-to-date list here. Here is a quick rundown of each promo:
American Airlines is offering a tiered discount. Depending on the number of American Airlines AAdvantage miles you buy, you can get a 5-35% discount. Depending on the number of miles you buy and the discount you get, the price of miles varies with a low of 1.92 cents per mile.
Southwest Airlines is offering a 30% discount when you buy at least 5,000 Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Points. This promo actually ends on June 1, so you have 1 more day than the rest of the promos mentioned. My girlfriend got the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass in November, so we fly Southwest Airlines as often as we can. No matter what quantity you purchase, all points cost 1.93 cents per point.
Spirit Airlines is offering a tiered bonus. Depending on the number of Spirit Airlines Free Spirit miles you buy, you can get a 15-40% bonus. Depending on the number of miles you buy and the bonus you get, the price of miles varies with a low of 1.79 cents per mile.
IHG Hotels is offering an 80% bonus when you buy at least 20,000 IHG Rewards Club points. IHG Points come in very handy when IHG runs their 5K / 10K / 15K PointsBreak hotel deals. Depending on the number of points you buy, the price is as low as 0.56 cents per point. That means PointsBreak hotels cost $28, $56, and $84 at the 5K, 10K, and 15K level.
SPG Hotels is offering a 35% discount when you buy at least 5,000 SPG Starpoints. SPG Starpoints have tons of uses from transferring to airlines, booking cash and points hotel reservations, and they can be transferred to Marriott Rewards at a 1:3 ratio. No matter what quantity you purchase, all SPG Starpoints cost 2.28 cents per point.

World Of Hyatt also has a buy points offer of up to 40% bonus till 5/23/18. And, Hilton is offering a 100% bonus for points purchased by 6/7/18.
We are maxed out on the SPG sale offer. The wife and I purchased and gifted the maximum to each other. Great current AA conversion whereby transfer SPG points to AA miles and receive a 25% bonus – meaning you get 31,250 AA miles for every 20K SPG points. Availability on AA is another issue. This conversion offer expires 5/31/18. The SPG points are also great for the Marriott Hotel + Air Packages and hopefully for lifetime calculation after 8/1, or is the new program will be strictly based on nights?
I’m glad you got a good deal on SPG points. I haven’t checked AA award space lately, but I have heard it is getting better.
As far as Marriott elite status, I think the program is only nights, not stays.
How about points in determining lifetime calculation after 8/1?
I’m not sure, sorry.
