Good afternoon everyone. Yesterday, I received an email from BJ’s Wholesale Club that my membership was going to renew on April 1, 2020. I don’t live near a BJ’s Wholesale Club and only signed up for the $10 online membership to buy gift cards, but I do not do gift card reselling anymore and haven’t bought anything from BJ’s Wholesale Club in 6+ months. Unfortunately, the process to cancel my membership is not very simple. Here are the steps I went through to cancel my membership.
I signed into my BJ’s Wholesale Club account and went to my membership page. I figured there would be a link to cancel my membership. I looked all over the page, but I couldn’t find a way to cancel my membership. Strangely, there is an option to edit my membership number (not sure why I would do that) and I could change/delete my billing details.
I then went to Google and found this helpful FAQ page with information on how to cancel a BJ’s Wholesale Club Membership: you can either visit the Member Services Desk at BJ’s Wholesale Club, by calling customer service at 800-257-2582, or by sending a letter. I decided to call BJ’s since there are no BJ’s Wholesale Clubs near me and I wasn’t going to send a letter.
On the phone, I called 800-257-2582, then pressed 1, then 3, then entered my BJ’s Wholesale Club membership number. I then verified my name and stated that I wanted to cancel my membership. I was then transferred to an agent. After waiting ~45 minutes, I spoke to an agent who was able to opt me out of the easy renewal. I was actually on hold for so long that I basically finished writing this post while still on hold.
I specifically asked the agent to send me a confirmation email about our conversation, just in case the opt out was not successful. ~2 hours after the call, I received a confirmation email from the agent confirming that I was opted out of the easy renewal (so much for being ‘easy’).

Is there any possible way for you to please make it so that your entire articles open in feedly, instead of having to click multiple times to get to the website to read? Other blogs I follow all are able to do this, I was wondering if you can please try to do this as well as it makes it a lot more readable.
Hi Lisa, thank you for the comment. I’m not very familiar with Feedly, but I believe it is like other RSS feeds, right? To be honest, I am not a fan of RSS feeds because they do not generate page views / ad impressions that generate revenue. I hope you understand where I am coming from and support my reasoning. Yes. This happened to me too. The directions online to cancel are false. The only way to cancel was to wait on the phone for 2 hours or more right now. I’m still waiting to cancel something that I didn’t opt into. I’m so angry with them for this. They lost my trust and me as a customer. Never knew they were crooks. I know times are hard for everyone but they are wrong for this. I hope someone with more knowledge than I exposes them.
The cancellation process was terrible when I wrote about it on March 2, 2020, I can only image that the process is even worse now. Sorry you have to deal with this annoying cancellation process.
They automatically renewed my membership, on a BJ’s credit card that I forgot I signed up for!! So I called to cancel the card that I never used or needed. They said the renewal charge had to be removed first. So they transferred me to BJ’s and I was assured it would be removed. Never was, so I called AGAIN, and it still has not been removed ! lNow there’s a late fee and interest charged as well!! This is getting quite ridiculous!! And messy!!
Hi Cheryl, that sounds very frustrating. I’m really sorry that BJs is so slow at cancelling your membership, crediting back the membership fee, crediting your credit card the interest charges and closing your CC. Keep being persistent until everything is cleared up. Good luck!

This is what I’m dealing with since December 20/20 and it’s now March! I renewed my card and they charged me 55$ at the same time I upgraded to the bjs MasterCard and never activated the card and they charged me 58.94 on the card for the upgrade! I called and cancelled the card and I’ve been getting hit with late fees etc and today when I shopped they told me my card had to be renewed and charged me another 55$!! I’m very frustrated! I called and once again got the run around! I won’t give up though!
Hi Dawn, that sounds very frustrating, I am sorry it is so much trouble dealing with BJ’s Wholesale. Try sending a message to BJ’s Wholesale on Facebook or Twitter. Sometimes you get a better response than phone agents. I hope you can get this resolved quickly. Don’t give up the fight!
