American Express Removed $25 Minimum Redemption Amount for AMEX Old Blue Cash Credit Card (OBC) on July 14

Good afternoon everyone, happy Friday!  In news that probably only matters to me, there is a positive change on the American Express Old Blue Cash Credit Card (OBC).  I was reviewing my recent credit card statement and saw that American Express removed the $25 minimum redemption amount, effective July 14, 2022.  As far as I remember, this credit card has had the $25 redemption threshold since I initially got this credit card back in 2014.  I decided to check it out and redeem my entire balance… all $15.07 of it :)

I signed into my AMEX online account, went to my OBC, and clicked the Explore Rewards button.

I then clicked the Get Started link to redeem my rewards.

Here is how the statement credit works…

I entered my entire rewards balance and clicked the Continue to Review button.

According to the terms and conditions, the statement credit will appear on my account within 3 days.

I reviewed the amount and clicked the Redeem Now button.

Success, I cashed in my $15.07 in rewards and my new rewards balance is $0.

I clicked the Rewards Summary tab to view my recent reward activity.  As you can see, I earned 73 cents with my OBC this year and have 3 more cents on the way.  Woo hoo!

I also received an email with the details of the reward redemption.

If you have any questions about the OBC, you will need a time machine to travel back a few years to when the OBC was relevant and super useful.  If you have any questions about the redemption process, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Ive had the OBC since the good ole days as well. In the right part of the country it still proves to be quite useful. :)
Ive never pushed the upper limits that were reported years ago but its been a steady, reliable cash back card for many years now.

I remember the old days too! I think I got it because of you ! Had to hit $6500 … then after that every $500 Visa gift cards was pure 5% cash back heaven . Load to bluebird at Walmart , rinse and repeat. I made a friend at Walmart who helped me with it at first bc he was doing it himself hahaha . Then it died after a few months when Walmart started shutting down deposits . Fun memories of $20 a pop or so per card after the initial work lol ….
I do remember one time getting scammed by stolen visa gift cards where people would open them up then skim the #s then put them back in. I think you helped put my post on it!

Hey Alex, yes, those were the days! I stopped MSing on the OBC years ago, so I’m not sure why I still have it around, I just have never had to get rid of it to make room for another AMEX CC. Ya, those VGC scammers are pretty sophisticated. I think the scam still happens at Ralphs / Kroger grocery stores in SoCal, so I have never bought another VGC from that store since.

The OBC is one of my oldest credit cards, which is why I keep it, alongside of the Blue Sky card!
I’d have to get rid of three Amex cards to be able to add one, so I figure, why bother?

I’m actually considering product changing my AMEX Old Blue Cash to an AMEX EveryDay, maybe I’ll get an upgrade offer sometime in the future.
