Good afternoon everyone, I just received the following email from Discover regarding my Discover It Credit Card. If I add an authorized user to my account and the authorized user makes a purchase by October 5, 2024, I will get a $50 bonus. I believe this offer is targeted since I didn’t see any mention of the authorized user bonus when I signed into my Discover online account and went to the Authorized User page. Last week, Discover had a similar promo with their referral program: Discover It Credit Card $100 Referral Offer, Earn up to $500 / Year (Referral Links Needed). If you have a Discover It, please share your referral link in that post.
Here are the terms and conditions from the bottom of the email:
1. Get $50 Cashback Bonus® after you add an Authorized User and make a purchase by 10/5/2024. Only purchases made after the Authorized User is added will count towards the offer. In order for a purchase to qualify the transaction date must be before or on the last day of the offer. Offer is limited to one Authorized User $50 Cashback Bonus® promotion per account. Once promotion details are met, cash back will be credited to your account within three billing cycles.
2. Primary account holder is responsible for all charges made by the Authorized User(s). Discover reports the account credit history to the three major credit bureaus as to you and the Authorized User. This can help build the Authorized User’s credit history over time if used responsibly. Late payments, delinquencies, or other derogatory activity with your credit card accounts and loans may adversely impact yours and the Authorized User’s ability to build credit.
I clicked the Add Authorized User link in the email, signed into my Discover account, and landed on this page. There is no mention of the $50 bonus on this page, so I would recommend keeping the email until you see the $50 bonus. You need to add the authorized user’s social security number (SSN) to the application. If you do not, the authorized user will have 5 days to add their SSN once they receive and activate their card. The authorized user will then have a new account on their credit report, which could impact their Chase 5/24 score.
I don’t want to impact Laura’s Chase 5/24 score, so I am going to pass on this offer. If you have any questions about this offer, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
