Good morning everyone. During our Memorial Day Weekend stay at the Andaz San Diego, my girlfriend and I were having a hard time figuring out which restaurant to go to for dinner. We didn’t have a car, so I wanted to find something close by that we could walk to. I decided to check AMEX Offers to see if there were any restaurants nearby that were offering a deal through AMEX Offers.
I opened the AMEX app and went to my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card (the only American Express card I brought on the trip – mainly for SFO Centurion Lounge access and SAN Airspace Lounge access). I clicked on the Offers icon at the bottom of the screen and then clicked the Nearby Offers link.
There were a few restaurants and clothing stores that were nearby (San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter). After looking through the list, I spotted Searsucker, a great restaurant just around the corner (just look at that Yelp score!)
I added the offer to my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card. I would get a $15 statement credit after spending $75 or more at Searsucker. I also double checked the offer terms. It didn’t mention anything about alcohol being excluded, or tax and tip being excluded, so any total charge of $75 or more would trigger the AMEX Offer. My girlfriend then made a dinner reservation for us on OpenTable so she could earn OpenTable credit.
We showed up to Searsucker and had a great dinner. We split the New York strip steak, shared a large Caesar salad, and ordered a side of masted potatoes and biscuts for the table. The food was great and I would definitely recommend this place for dinner. It is great for couples, families, and large parties.
The bill came and it was just over the $75 mark. I paid with my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card and the charge is still pending, but I did receive the congratulations email from American Express stating that we did trigger the AMEX Offer, so the $15 statement credit should post to my card in a few days.
If you have any questions about searching local AMEX Offers, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
I love AmEx offers but didn’t know you could search by location – thanks for the post.
Yes, me either. This was an interesting find, but it makes it hard to know what offers are available unless you look.
I ‘checked-in’ into a restaurant on Facebook yesterday. When I got home I got an email from them thanking me for my dine. This crap is way too invasive. thanks but no thanks.
Did you get something for free for checking into the restaurant on Facebook?
