Good afternoon everyone. I started sharing my thoughts regarding working from home in a series of Work from Home Diary posts. Feel free to share your work from home feelings in the comments section below. For today’s update, I wanted to talk about my quarantine buddy (Laura), our combined work space, and our daily routine.
I’m on week 4 of working from home, so I seem to have a good system in place. For the last few weeks, Laura has also been working from home. When I was home by myself, I preferred working upstairs in our guest room / home office. But now that Laura is home too, I decided to move down to the dining room table to work next to her. It is nice to work face to face with someone (even though we are working on completely different things) and I think it keeps us both accountable. I make sure she doesn’t spend all day on Facebook, Instagram or online shopping; she makes sure I don’t spend all day watching CNN (aka Coronavirus News Network) and reading travel blogs.
Since we do not need to wake up early to leave for work, we are able to sleep in longer and eat breakfast together. After working for a few hours in the morning, we will have lunch together (usually eating leftovers from the previous night). Then after working a few more hours, we will go for a 3 mile walk around our neighborhood to stretch our legs, breath in some fresh air, and get some sunshine. When we return home, we make dinner together (saving half for lunch the following day) and then relax on the couch.
There are a few shows the we love watching together (90 Day Fiance, 60 Minutes, Survivor, and Married at First Sight, to name just a few), a few shows that she watches (that I can’t stand), and vice versa. I also got her interested in watching The Profit (CNBC reality show with Marcus Lemonis) and Dr. Pimple Popper (I was really grossed out about watching this show at first, but it quickly grew on me – like a cyst or lipoma).
Every night, I thank Laura for being the best quarantine buddy I could ever ask for. She keeps me company, keeps me entertained, and keeps me sane. I really couldn’t image living by myself for days / weeks / months on end, so I am really lucky that she is stuck with me (and I am stuck with her).
How is your work from home routine going? What shows are you watching? What have you learned about yourself or your quarantine buddies? Let me know in the comments section. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
I set up my computer in one of our vacated bedrooms upstairs. I think I’m busier than when I had to go into work, but the commute is much better. We also take time to have lunch together and usually take a walk before dinner. We rely on Netflix, Amazon, HGTV and the Food Network for much of our entertainment, shying away from most network news. Paging through FB is fun, especially seeing some of the newer memes. Stay safe and sane!
Hi Steve, sounds like you have a good home office set up and plenty of TV shows to keep you entertained for a while. Stay healthy and safe.
Omg, thanks for suggesting Dr Pimple Popper. My partner loves watching people popping their zits on YouTube. I never knew there was a TV show like that existed. We will try it some day.
Hi Erik, I was never into watching the YouTube videos, but I think Dr. Pimple Popper started sharing her videos on YouTube before getting her TV show. I hope you enjoy the show :)
