Good morning everyone, happy Friday and happy Memorial Day Weekend! Earlier this week, I wrote Get $25 Utility Bill Credit from Arcadia + Earn 5% Cash Back with US Bank Cash Plus. In that post, I mentioned that I Use Trim to Save Money on Cable / TV / Internet / Phone Utility Bills. Trim must have been reading that post because the very next day, Trim saved me another $57 on my Comcast Xfinity cable bill. As a reminder, Trim will reach out to your utility company (cable, TV, internet, and phone) on your behalf and negotiate a lower monthly cost or get you a 1 time courtesy credit. In exchange for negotiating a lower rate, Trim takes a cut of the savings. I received the following email from Comcast Xfinity regarding a credit to my bill. Laura and I did not contact Comcast recently regarding our bill, so I knew Trim had worked their magic once again.
The next day, I received the email from Trim with details of the negotiation. Trim was able to get me a 1 time courtesy credit of $57.08 with the description of “Outage Refunds.” Laura and I have been living and working at home for the last ~3 months and I haven’t noticed any outages from Comcast Xfinity, but I will gladly take the $57.08 courtesy credit. Whenever Trim is successful in their negotiations, they take a 33% cut of the savings, so $57.08 x 33% = $18.84, which will get billed to my credit card.
When I log into my Trim account, I can see that Trim has saved me $167.08 since I first started using the service in October 2018. The dates and amounts differ over the years, so there is no rhyme or reason when Trim will be able to save you money. Here is a timeline of the savings:
- Oct 2018 – $25.00
- Jan 2019 – $60.00
- Aug 2019 – $10.00
- Feb 2020 – $15.00
- May 2020 – $57.08
Total: $167.08
If you are concerned about Trim messing up your super awesome grandfathered plan or accepting a new contract on your behalf, you can adjust the negotiating settings by turning those options off. The $167.08 I have saved has always been due to selecting the 2 bottom options.
If you have any questions about Trim, please leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
It looks like the only plan is $99 annually, so are you adjusting your savings for that amount?
Hi Victor, thank you for the question.
I use the free Trim service. A few months ago, Trim introduced a premium plan that provides other services like high interest savings, medical bill negotiation, cancelling subscriptions, and debt payoff plans. But if all you want to do is have Trim lower your TV / cable / internet / phone plan, that is free to use. Let me know if you have any other questions.
You’re lucky. I started using them in Feb/March when I told you and they tried to workout a deal with Comcast but nothing. I think they said they would just keep me on the same plan for another year.
Hi JBC, bummer Trim couldn’t save you money right away. My advice is to stay patient and let Trim keep checking for you. When you least expect it, Trim might save you a few bucks. Have a great weekend :)
I know change can be scary….but seriously , ditch the Xfinity TV dinosaur for YouTube TV . You’ll never look back. And, yes, most customers get all of their local stations and all customers get unlimited DVR accessible on any device.
Hi Lee, thank you for the suggestion. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
It looks as if Trim wants your cellphone number and bank account information, although I didn’t complete the signup process to verify.
Good point. Trim has access to my Chase account because they monitor the Comcast Xfinity charges that go through on my Ink Plus. I don’t think that is required though.
Overall, I had had a good experience with Trim until they renegotiated my wireless bill. I am still trying to undo all the damage there – and it has ended up costing me a bundle! I am trying to work it out with Trim but they have not been very responsive.
Hi Pad, I’m sorry you didn’t have a good experience with Trim. When you linked your wireless plan to Trim, did you change the negotiation settings? Did they switch you to a more expensive package? I’ve never had that happen with Comcast Xfinity.
