Good morning everyone, happy Friday. I was reviewing my recent Citi Costco Anywhere Visa Credit Card statement and spotted this announcement at the bottom of my statement. The announcement says: “Effective January 22, 2023, Extended Warranty coverage will be discontinued and will no longer be provided for purchases made on or after that date.” I decided to do some digging to find out more information about the change.
I signed into my Citi online account and navigated to the extended warranty page and here is the popup:
I then went to the Card Benefits FAQs page (you need to be logged in to see these FAQs) to see more information about the change.
Here is the link to the current Guide to Benefits and here is the link to the new Guide to Benefits (effective January 22, 2023). Here are the relevant extended warranty pages:
I have not used the extended warranty protection on the Citi Costco card, but I know some people love this benefit and the added piece of mind. Frequent Miler has a great resource on extended warranty benefits and other credit card purchase protections, so check out the post to see what the new best card will be for you. If you have any questions about the Citi Costco Anywhere Visa Credit Card or the extended warranty change, please leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
As Citi guts another card benefit…it wouldn’t shock me if they just one day decided to completely exist the card space.
We will see, I personally never use any of those special benefits, but I think the cell phone protection is here to stay.
Looks like no change (yet) to my Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Card (still 24-months), only my Costco Anywhere Card. Odd that the Costco card isn’t even going to a 12-mo extended warranty to match Amex/Chase.
No changes yet is the key word. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more changes to come on other Citi credit cards.
I assume this is done primarily as Costco offers a 2 year warranty on top of the credit card warranty for things such as electronics and appliances, which made the total warranty 4 years. I’m guessing that fourth year was seeing a lot of claims, so it is being pared back to 3 years to save money. The extra two years was what made me put appliance/electronic spend on the Citi card. For just one extra year, I’ll think twice.
Yes, that may be the reason for this change. I know Costco has a great return program, so this is an unfortunate change.
Both Costco and this card have been on the bubble for me for awhile. I love a few products but my fam is just not buying enough in bulk to really justify paying $60 for the privilege.
Plus sam’s club is offering deals for new members and it’s just down the street. Might as well cancel this junk and I can new member Costco in a year.
Hi Nate, Sam’s Club has some great promos for their membership. If you live close to a Sam’s Club, I would definitely drop Costco and go over to Sam’s Club. If you decided to leave Costco, make sure to product change your Citi Costco to another Citi credit card, like the Citi Double Cash, Citi Custom Cash, or Citi Rewards+.
