Save Money using the new Target REDperks App (Beta)

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  I had relatives visiting this past weekend, so I have a few trip reports to share regarding Rombrauer Vineyards, Gott’s Roadhouse, V. Sattui Winery, Victorian houses in Noe Valley, and the Sierra Nevada Torpedo Room in Berkeley.

But before I get to those trip reports, I wanted to introduce you to Target REDperks, a new rewards program from Target.  Since this program is only in beta, Target is only accepting members from certain markets.  You can sign up here by entering your full name, zip code, and your Target.com email into the form.

Target Redperks You In

If you are like me, you will probably get the following message, but don’t worry.

Target Redperks Not In

Since this program is intended for residents in Raleigh, North Carolina, if you replace your zip code with 27601, you will have better luck registering for Target REDperks.  Once you are approved, you need to download the app to your iPhone or Android.

Target RedPerks

Here is the welcome email with details about the Target REDperks program:

  • 10 points per dollar spent at Target
  • Earn bonus points by unlocking bonus opportunities
  • Redeem 5,000 points for 5% shopping days (on top of Target REDcard discount)
  • Great rewards and bonus offers (very vague and subjective)

RedPerks Welcome Email

After logging into the app, I received 250 bonus points.  To earn points, the cashier needs to scan your barcode during checkout.  This might only work in Target stores in Raleigh, so YMMV.

I received 2 bonus offers that are valid through February 28, 2015:

  • Earn double points on all Target purchases (20 points per dollar)
  • Spend $80 or more in one transaction and receive 200 bonus points

Since the Target REDperks program is still in beta and I am outside the Raleigh area, I can’t provide any more information.  If you decide to join Target REDperks, please share your experience using the app.  If you receive any targeted offers, please let me know as well.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Thanks Grant, On a related note, I understand that Target is now limiting daily reloads on Redbird to $1000/day. I also hear of some Targets no longer taking credit cards at all for loads.
Lastly, assuming true, I assume the “debit” form of card implies the variable load(up to $500) Visa(US Bank) sort we can still obtain from grocery stores?
Would prefer loading via Target than Walmart.

This implies that we can skip the Visa GC’s(from grocery stores et al) and simply load the AMEX gift card directly.
Between that and straight CC loads this is too good to last.

Thank you for the data point, Aaron. Glad you were able to load your Redbird Card without any problems. Seems like the West Coast has better luck than the East Coast.

Thank you Grant! 27601 worked for me, just signed up at 1:15 PM PST today 2/23/15. But not in Raleigh either. But not complaining since I heard they have problems with Redbirds anyways (not sure if they still do).

It doesn’t work if you have anything other than an iPhone…..just my guess. The beta app at the top only shows the Apple logo. It didn’t work for me either…as an Android user using the Raleigh zip code.

Thank you Grant.. Quick note.. Target.com account is not linked to nor linkable to Redbird. App authentication requires you to setup a target, com account using same logon as the email you keyed into the RedPerks offer.. I’m wondering what happens when non-Charlotte store tries to swipe App barcode.. I’ll find out when Redbird calendar flips 3/1

This is correct. Your Target.com shopping account is different from your Redbird account. I actually use two different email addresses for each.

I wonder if Redbird reloads count as scannable purchases at the store. ;) Points on $5000/month? Yes please! /wishfulthinking

The zip code worked, and I downloaded the app, but Target won’t let me create an account – “Redperks is only available in select areas. If you received an invite, please check your information and try again.”

Worst part about this? Target has pulled from all the major online point shopping malls…. you should ask them about that.

    This is a bad change.
