Good afternoon everyone, I have another short blog post about American Express to share. I hope you liked my morning post: $10 Statement Credits Just Posted for Jifiti Nike Promo / $50 Nike eGift Card AMEX Offer. I was going through my American Express credit card statements and spotted this announcement at the bottom of my American Express Everyday Credit Card statement. Effective November 1, transfers from American Express Membership Reward Points to Virgin America will no longer be possible. The last day to make transfers to Virgin America is October 31.
The current transfer rate is 2:1 in 200 Membership Reward Points increments. For every 1,000 American Express Membership Reward Points you transfer to Virgin America, you will receive 500 Virgin America Elevate Points and be required to pay a 60 cent surcharge (thank you American Express!). All in all, this was never a great transfer option to begin with, but that is just one less transfer partner of American Express Membership Reward Points.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
It’s also a roundabout way of transferring your MRs to Alaska. It’s still a horrible ratio, but if you’re in a pinch, it’s another option. 1000 MRs would yield 650 AS miles. (1000 MR = 500 VX. 500 VX = 650 AS)
That’s true, but not one I would recommend.
The only use I found for Virgin America transfer is membership rewards to virgin america and then to Alaska. So 1 mem point to .65 Alaska mile. Could be good for Cathay redemptions. Unless there’s another way to get Alaska miles through membership rewards??
Not that I know of. I think that is the only way to get AS miles.
