Boise, Idaho, here I come (Boise State vs. Wyoming College Football Game)

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  I’m going to assume that 99.9% of you don’t care about Boise State Football or have ever been to Boise, Idaho.  For whatever reason, I have been a big fan of Boise State for the last few years, even though I never went to school there and I don’t know anyone who lives in Idaho.  Maybe the bright blue turf football field has something to do with it, I’m not sure.  Either way, I am finally going to a game in Boise Saturday night (I still need to buy tickets for the game).  Watching a Boise State football game is on my “sports bucket list” and I am happy to check it off my list.

Another interesting thing about Boise is that there is a regular Walmart, Super Walmart, and Neighborhood Walmart all pretty close by.  I am hopeful that I can load my remaining VGCs to my old GoBank card at one of those Walmart stores.  If anyone has any experience using Walmart in Boise, please let me know.

I am finally using my Southwest Companion Pass for the first time this weekend.  I like to joke that getting a Companion Pass is easy, but finding a travel companion is hard.  When I asked my friend Daraius (Million Mile Secrets) this question last year, his response was, “try Match.com or some other dating site.”  Anyway, I am flying with my friend from Oakland to Boise (non-stop) on Friday night, going to the game on Saturday night, and flying back to Oakland (non-stop) Sunday night.  What else would you recommend doing in Boise on Saturday and Sunday morning/afternoon?  Here are the top 6 things to do in Boise, according to Trip Advisor, but I am open to any and all suggestions.

Thank you for your help and have a great weekend!

I live in Boise ‘ go Broncos! I can actually see the stadium from my house, plus drive by BSU going to work every day. On Saturday we will have two farmers markets going on down town, they are a fun way to walk around town and get the flavor, also just walking the green belt in about as Boise as you can get!

Awesome, thank you Judy. I am staying at the Courtyard Marriott Downtown Boise, is that close to the farmers market and green belt? Any place you know of to buy cheap, last minute Boise State tickets?

Walk around our downtown and try some restaurants like Goldy’s on Capital for breakfast, Bardenay in the Basque block, (brunch, lunch, or dinner & great drinks). Actually most restaurants downtown are good, just ask a local! Greenbelt is right by BSU & the fall colors are looking good! If you can make it to Camel’s Back Park (north down 13th St at the end) climb up the hill to get a good view of our city. Have a great time and enjoy the game and your fellow BSU fans! GO BRONCOS!

I just read where you are staying, you won’t be far from the greenbelt and the downtown market is walkable from Courtyard. Ask your hotel for directions. It a great location to get to the football stadium.

What’s funny is that we are heading to the Bay area tomorrow for a weekend getaway. We’ll be watching the game from our room at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero, a free trip thanks to our miles and points! We appreciate all of your advice from this blog, and again, have a great time in Boise!

Boise also has lots of breweries popping up. Close to your hotel is Boise Brewing and Woodland Empire. Fork is a great place to eat, so is Bittercreek Ale House. You can probably still buy tickets by walking up at game time. Check Craigslist for better seats. Ticket resales not illegal in Idaho if price does not exceed face value.

Looks like you will have great weather for your stay, light sweater, light jacket you are set.
If you are burning Marriott points and you have time to switch, ( and if there is availability), Residence Inn Downtown on S. Lusk or Town Place Suites next door are both better choices for your stay. Both back up to Ann Morrison Park, and are with in walking distance to the game, and other establishments you may enjoy. Go Broncos and welcome to the treasure Valley.

Some decent beers are on tap at Boise Brewing right behind the Trader Joe’s, but be aware they don’t even have bar food there. Stop by Chipotle, Panda or even TJ’s and bring in some snacks.

If you’re looking for a nice dinner, stop by Chandler’s and if Kevin is working the bar, ask for a Mojito which is great or a 10-minute martini.

Great seeing you and Jim in Chicago – I’m the dot.Com guy ( rolling my eyes ) thanks for fixing my fb/Web page . Enjoy the game as I’m a big Bama fan and going to a game is tops on my sports list – enjoy

YOU MUST got to Alavita for dinner one of the nights. It’s the cutest little place ever. And too bad you’re at the courtyard Marriott – Hotel 43 or The Modern are excellent boutique hotels – though you wouldn’t be able to redeem points for them.

The restaurant scene is basically on 8th and main – about 3/4 of a mile from the courtyard. ENJOY!

Grant maybe you can check out stub hub craigslist and eBay. Also maybe some of the schools have their own individual ticket reseller website for season ticket holders etc. Have a great time !!!

    Hi Grant,
When I Googled ‘manufactured spending Boise’ this post came up. I’ve not purchased VGCs or Bluebird or anything yet, but I’m wondering if you went to a Walmart here in Boise and had success?
