Good afternoon everyone. I am channeling my inner Lucky and Ben to post twice in the same day. I’m exhausted, I don’t think I can keep up with them for much longer. Anyway, last week, Lyft and JetBlue announced a partnership where you could take Lyft to/from the airport and earn 30 JetBlue TrueBlue points per trip. Before I go any further, I am required by the blogger code of conduct to insert my Lyft referral link (get $50 in Lyft ride credit).
During my recent weekend trip to Washington, D.C., I flew to IAD and took a Lyft Line to the Marriott Marquis Hotel. Since the ride was super early, I got the whole Lyft Line to myself. I got dropped off at the hotel at 6:29am and received an Award Wallet alert that I received 30 JetBlue TrueBlue points at 7:15am (which was 14 minutes faster than the Lyft app). 30 JetBlue TrueBlue points is worth ~60 cents, so the points don’t even offset my tip.
Here is what 30 JetBlue TrueBlue bonus points looks like in my account. I’m not sure why the details say “Lyft Base Points” since you get a flat 30 points per ride to/from the airport.
I wanted to dig a little deeper into the Lyft / JetBlue partnership, so I checked out the Lyft Connected Services page. On this page, I checked out the program details and here is what I found:
- “You will earn 30 points per Lyft Classic, Plus, or Premier ride and can collect up to 1,200 points annually.”
- “Q: Can I earn TrueBlue points on Lyft Line? A: No. At this time all TrueBlue points must be earned on Lyft Classic, Premier, or Plus rides.”
I took a Lyft Line and received 30 JetBlue TrueBlue points. It looks like Lyft / JetBlue isn’t enforcing the Lyft Line rule right now.
As I was learning about the Lyft / JetBlue partnership, I also checked out the Lyft / Shell Fuel Rewards partnership and the Lyft / Starbucks Star Rewards partnership. Here is what I found out about the Lyft / Shell Fuel Rewards partnership on their program terms page:
- “Lyft drivers without an existing Fuel Rewards account can sign up for the Fuel Rewards program and receive a one-time 25¢/gallon savings (up to 20 gallons) at participating Shell stations. Then, save at least 3¢/gallon on every fill up after that!”
- “Depending on your Accelerate level each month, you’ll receive the following daily fuel savings every time you fill up at the pump: Silver: 3¢/gallon; Gold: 5¢/gallon; Platinum: 7¢/gallon.”
- “Heads up for passengers and applicants: The Fuel Rewards promotion for new passengers and new driver applicants ended June 6, 2016.”
To summarize, the Lyft / Shell Fuel Rewards partnership is only for Lyft drivers, not passengers :(
Last but not least, I checked out the Lyft / Starbucks Star Rewards partnership. Here is what I found out about the partnership on their program terms page:
- “After your Lyft and Starbucks Rewards accounts are linked, you will earn 5 Stars for rides taken Monday through Friday between 5 AM and 10 AM before 11/09/2016. Only one ride per hour qualifies for stars.”
- “Stars will appear in your account within 24 hours of completing a qualifying ride.”
This partnership is set to expire on November 9, so you only have a few more days to earn bonus stars. Since it takes 125 stars to get a free drink, let’s assume the free drink is $5. $5 / 125 stars = 4 cents per star x 5 stars per ride = 20 cents toward a free drink. You would need to complete 25 Lyft rides to get a free drink. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
P.S. If you are not a Lyft rider, please sign up for free with my Lyft referral link (get $50 in Lyft ride credit). If you want to earn some extra money, you can become a Lyft driver (sign up bonus depends on your city).
