Grant’s 2019 Eurotrip: Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldova & Romania

Good morning / evening from the SFO Centurion Lounge ORD Polaris Lounge IST Turkish Airlines Lounge!  Sorry I have been very busy the last few weeks and it looks like I will be busy for another week.  But this week, I will be hopping around Eastern Europe… in winter!  I’ll be visiting Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldova & Romania over the next few days and I am looking for recommendations.  I will be spending 1-2 days in each country.  I’m not planning on doing a trip report or any hotel reviews (no fancy hotels booked on this trip).  So if you have any recommendations for must-see, must-do, or must-eat items, please share them in the comments below.

I have a few other posts in the queue, I just need to make time to sit down and write them.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Here are parts of my trip report:

Stefan talked about Transnistria too. Looks like it is only an hour drive from Chisinau. Can you drive there for a few hours or do you need to go with a tour company?

While traveling to Moldova, be sure not to miss Milestii Mici Winery – the largest underground cave network with the biggest collection of wine in the world and, Cricova Winery – the second largest wine cellar in Europe.
If you are seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure, then visit the “last surviving haven of the Soviet Union” – Transnistria and discover the cultural diversity throughout the country.
I will be glad to help in arranging the best travel experience, here in Moldova. For more information, check: https://winetours.md/

Please a trip report. This is so interesting – four off the beaten path countries. Good on you for thinking outside the box.

I think it would worth it if in Romania you add Brasov to your itinerary. It’s simply so amazing and so different than the rest of Balkans.
In Bucharest you can stop at Beraria H, it’s the largest beerhall you will see, and they have plenty of Romanian food.

Hi Claudia, thank you for those recommendations. I think we only have a 6-7 hour layover in Bucharest, so I’m not sure what we will be able to see/do/eat/drink, but the beer hall sounds fun.

While in Bucharest, get some mititei and chorba. If you had more time, I would suggest going to Brasov or other mountain towns.
