Quick Update Regarding the Old 150x British Airways Avios & Match.com Promo

Good afternoon from rainy Northern California!  Almost 2 years ago, British Airways ran a promo where you could earn 150 BA Avios per dollar spent at Match.com.  Several of the blogs covered the promo, so I decided I would buy a membership for $548.57 and earn 82,285 BA Avios (0.67 CPP).  Long story short, I never earned any BA Avios and after complaining to British Airways & Match.com for several months, I got a full refund of my membership (read My Love / Hate Relationship with British Airways & Match.com).  During the few months that I was a Match.com member, I decided that I would actually use the dating service and see what would happen (I had nothing to lose).  Fast forward a few weeks and Laura sent me a message.  Fast forward a year and a half and I proposed to her in San Francisco (Bay Bridge in the background).  And she said YES!

The proposal and photo took place a few weeks ago, but I figured I would let TWG readers know.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Maybe if you send this story to British Airways and Match.com they will send you on a lavish honeymoon for promotional purposes! Wait, they screwed you! Never mind.
    Congrats on the engagement buddy!

    Congratulations!

I could not get in on match.com 150 Avios/$ deal, since Match.com was down by the time I jumped on it. Instead got in on 130 Avios/$ eHarmony offer. Recall that eHarmony wanted to cancel my account too, but I spent about 2 hours filling in profiles, doing questionnaires, and uploading photos, so in the end I must have looked like a legitimate dater. Best part was that since I was in Canada, I got billed in CAD but BA shopping portal counted each CAD as USD, so I ended up with 42044 Avios on 323 CAD (~250 USD at the time) spend (~168 Avios/USD).

I used the eHarmony account for a while, but did not find a match, and after a few months ended up spending Avios on a flight to Japan (return was on AC through Aeroplan on CC signup bonus), which was my first points booking.

So I want to thank you. Your post was one of the ones that got me into the points and miles game.

That is a great story, I am glad you got a great deal on an eHarmony membership. Sorry it didn’t work out, but you used the BA Avios well :)

Yeah I would probably send a quick note to Álex Cruz — they should really give you guys the points, maybe in a household account.

Are you saying that one spouse = 82,285 Avios? if I open a Chase card for 100k avios, can I get 1 wife and a blender with the remaining points? If I open a business card too, can I get a second spouse? I heard that somebody once got 2 wives with a single cc app, should I wait?
