Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well. Yesterday morning, I received an email from AMEX with the subject line “Important Notice About Your American Express Account.” That subject line could mean many things (my mind automatically assumes the worst when receiving these type of emails), but I was very happy to see that American Express gave me Membership Rewards Points due to an issue with the Pay with Points feature available on my American Express Business Platinum Card. I have only used the Pay with Points feature once in May 2019 and wrote about My Disappointing Experience with AMEX Business Platinum 35% Membership Rewards Point Rebate in August 2019, so I don’t have any immediate plans to use the feature again. There were 2 strange things about this email.
The email above came on June 23 but the points adjustment from American Express actually posted to my Membership Rewards account on May 19. I’m not sure why it took American Express more than a month to send the above email. AwardWallet notified me about this mid-month points adjustment, so I did see this several weeks ago, but I was not sure what it was related to. For the record, 6,883 Membership Rewards Points is the correct number of points since the original Pay with Points charge was for 19,666 Membership Rewards Points and 35% of 19,666 = 6,883.
Contrast that with the incorrect number of Membership Rewards Points I received on August 23, 2019 after contacting American Express (6,860 vs. 6,883).
I’m not sure what will happen to the above 6,860 points that were awarded in August 2019. If American Express later removes those points from my account, I will not be heartbroken. If you have made any Pay with Points bookings in the last 1-2 years and did not receive any or all of the Membership Rewards Points you were due, you may see a random point adjustment in your account followed by an email a month later. Has anyone else experienced this recently? If so, please share your details in the comments section below. Have a great day everyone!
P.S. Greetings from beautiful Lake Tahoe #vacationlife
I got a whopping 137,344 points added to my account on May 19th.
Dang, that’s great Tonei, I’m sure those MR points will come in handy. You must have used the pay with points feature a few times, right?
