Good afternoon everyone, I hope you had a great Fourth of July weekend.  A few days ago, I was reading Frequent Miler’s post Complete Guide to Sonesta Travel Pass and read in the comments by McGeoffroy that Sonesta was offering a status match to their top tier Sonesta Platinum Status.  McGeoffroy was able to match Hyatt Globalist Status to Sonesta Platinum Status.  I don’t have Hyatt Globalist Status, so I was curious what other hotel program and elite tiers Sonesta would match.  Here is what I learned about the status match process.

Before I get to the status match, here are the benefits of Sonesta Platinum Status.  The only difference from Gold to Platinum is the 100% Tier Bonus Point Multipliers.

I followed McGeoffroy’s advice and emailed travelpass@sonesta.com to ask about the status match and learn what options were available.  I was surprised to get a response back within an hour on a holiday weekend.

To upgrade your account, we require a screenshot of a current membership card or statement showing your status and your first name which must match the name on your Travel Pass account. Once that is received, we will be able to complete your status match.

A screenshot of your IHG Diamond or your Wyndham Diamond account will be enough to instantly upgrade you to Platinum. Please reply to this email at your convenience.

I have Wyndham Rewards Diamond Status from my Barclays Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Credit Card, so I took 2 screenshots of my account and sent them to Sonesta.  I also provided my Sonesta member number and email address, to help with the status match.

About an hour later, I received a response that my status match request was successful!

I logged into my Sonesta account and saw that I was upgraded from Silver to Platinum.  I also saw that I had 1,000 Sonesta points from a sign up promo back in December 2022.

Based on the info I have so far, it looks like you can use these statuses to match to Sonesta Platinum:

• Hyatt Globalist
• IHG Diamond
• Wyndham Diamond

If anyone has a data point about Hilton, Marriott, or Choice, please let me know and I can add them to the list above.  I am seriously considering getting the Bank of America Sonesta Credit Card because the sign up bonus is currently up to 125K points after spending $2,000 in 3 months and the $75 annual fee is waived the first year.
