New American Express App Feature: Get Your AMEX Pass to Access 25 Venues + 10% Cash Back on Qualifying Concessions

Good afternoon everyone.  I was clicking around the American Express app and stumbled on some new features that are being rolled out.  If you sign into the app and click the Account tab in the bottom right corner, then click Try New Features, you will see 3 new features: New Wallets & Merchants, Amex Inspire, and Amex Pass.  This post is dedicated to the AMEX Pass feature, but I cover the other 2 features at the bottom of the post.  The AMEX Pass creates a special QR code that you can use to access select AMEX venues (25 as of 1/8/25) and you can earn 10% cash back on qualifying concessions by using your enrolled card.  Here is the process to set up your AMEX Pass.

I don’t think it matters which AMEX card you select for the AMEX Pass, but I selected my American Express Business Platinum Card since it was at the top of the list.

Select the card and click the Confirm button.  You will now have a QR code that you can show to the AMEX rep when you enter the venue.  I have a full list of venues listed below.

Here are some more details about the AMEX pass from the Learn More tab.

Here is more info about the AMEX Venue Collection, special ticket access, card member entrance, and 10% back on qualifying concessions.

Here is more info on how the qualifying concessions feature works.  You can earn up to $250 cash back as a statement credit per enrolled card per calendar year.  You can see which types of purchases qualify and which types of purchase are ineligible.

Unfortunately, I kept getting an error when I tried to enroll in this offer.  Maybe the offer expired or isn’t live yet.

Here is more info about the AMEX Venue Collection.  The list is broken down by continent.

Here are all the participating venues (as of 1/8/25).  I am not sure exactly what makes the venues part of the AMEX Venue Collection, but there may be special security entrance lines and special areas only for AMEX cardmembers.  There are lots of options in LA and NY.

The other new AMEX feature in the app is the ability to add your AMEX card to new wallets and merchants.  As of today (1/8/25), there are only 6 participating merchants: Amazon, Bloomingdale’s, Hilton, Macy’s, PayPal, and Shop Pay.  I am not sure if you can add recently approved virtual cards into these apps, but it may be possible.

I didn’t go through the entire process, but it looks like you select the merchant from above, then select a card, and then you will need to sign into the merchant to add the card.  Seems very simple.

Last and probably least, is the new AMEX Inspire feature.  It uses your AMEX card shopping data to suggest new Resy restaurants that you might like.

There are only a handful of cities available and the restaurant picks were not helpful for me, but could be good if you like eating out at Resy restaurants and can’t decide which one to visit.

It is interesting to see these new AMEX features be rolled out and I will keep an eye on this tab to see if new features get released in the coming months.  Which feature is most useful or exciting for you?  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!
