Good afternoon, welcome to random news afternoon edition. I have 2 timeshare presentations to share. The first is a Hilton Grand Vacations property in Honolulu and Waikoloa. Make sure you read the small print so you know what you are getting yourself into. I wrote about my experience at the Hilton Grand Vacations Elara in Las Vegas:
- Part 1 – Hilton Elara Timeshare in Las Vegas (Trip Report and Pics)
- Part 2 – Hilton Elara Timeshare in Las Vegas (Perks and Presentation)
- $200 “Spend A Night On Us” Rebate Check from Hilton Grand Vacations
I also received a letter from Hyatt in regards to a timeshare presentation at the Hyatt Ka’anapali Beach Resort on Maui. The terms and conditions on the back say you need to have a combined household income of $125,000+ and be over 27 years old. You will also get 10,000 Hyatt points as a thank you for going to the timeshare presentation. Make sure you read the small print so you know what you are getting yourself into.
My friend Paul sent me a few interesting travel articles:
The First Ever In-Flight Movie
The first commercial flight took place on January 1 1914. Amazingly, the first in-flight movie was shown only seven years later. In 1921 a hydroplane projected a short film on to a screen erected at the front of the cabin entitledHowdy Chicago! to eleven passengers. The movie told people of the great points of visiting Chicago, which was appropriate since the flight took place at the Chicago Pageant of Progress – a two week festival of speedboating, skydiving, hydroplaning, and, strangely, a speed-typing competition.
Stop Getting Gouged: All the Extra Fees You Can Avoid When Traveling
If you’re traveling abroad, you’ll probably need to convert some money. When you do so, your bank will likely charge you, both at the ATM and for every credit card transaction. Most credit cards charge you 3% per transaction and over $5 per ATM withdrawal. Those can add up quickly!
Last but not least, my friend Ian has a YouTube Channel dedicated to making miles and points videos. If you have any requests, please leave a comment below.

I got a Hyatt Maui offer, but it was for $75/nt plus breakfast for 2, and no points. I think I might do it for the rate plus some points.
Your rate sounds very good, is it at the same resort?
No, you’re right, it isn’t. My offer is for the HR Maui. Your 2BR villa would be nice for a family.
Yes, definitely. You can call in about your offer but see if you can participate in the other timeshare presentation.
I hope anyone who takes advantage of the offer would decide against buying a timeshare.. The annual maintenance fee is high especially for Hawaii properties and it increase every year.
You are 100% right. I think the group of people who read this blog are pretty savvy and know the annual cost of timeshares is very expensive and probably not worth the price.
You probably mentioned it in other posts, Grant, but how do you get targeted for these offers?
Having certain credit cards probably helps, enrolling in loyalty program emails, taking loyalty program surveys, or calling loyalty programs and asking if there are any targeted offers in your account. Those are my suggestions, but you don’t need to do everything.
I just got a Hyatt CC last month. They sent me an offer for 2 nights at Residences in Carmel but that’s only a couple of hours from my house. REALLY REALLY hoping to get one of these Maui offers in the mail. Any way I could call and request one?
Sure, call them and tell them you got the offer but you can’t read the offer code. You should be allowed to participate in the timeshare presentation.
Is $199 good price? I was considering andaz regular for $350
The price is really cheap because they think they can sell you a timeshare. $199 for anywhere in Hawaii is a really good price.
We went on the Hyatt timeshare deal last November in Maui. Signed up for the Hyatt card at the same time to extend the stay. They gave us upgrades on the timeshare rooms for 5 days, and then oceanfront on the extended nights. Thanks for the great ideas on a fabulous family trip.
We want to go Hilton Maui Spring 2016. Got any credit card recommendations for my DH and me? We have 0 Hilton points. I like your Virgin Atlantic to Hilton transfer 2:3 suggestion.
There are 4 Hilton credit cards to chose from plus 2 transfer options (BofA Virgin Atlantic and Barclays Hawaiian Airlines). Both offer 2 miles to get 3 Hilton points.
Read this post that compares the Hilton credit cards: http://travelwithgrant.boardingarea.com/2014/07/20/msing-for-hilton-hhonors-points-4-credit-card-comparison-and-reykjavik-iceland-hotel-options/
I believe everything is up to date, but if you have any questions, please let me know.
