While reviewing my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card statement last night, I noticed an update to the program terms. Effective immediately, American Express has INCREASED their coverage amount for high risk items from $250 to $1,000. There is no additional charge for this benefit as it’s part of the benefits of the card under the Baggage Insurance Plan. It’s nice when a benefit is increased or added to a card. High risk items include computers, jewelry, and furs. Unfortunately, this plan update excludes people living in Indiana, Puerto Rico, Guam, and Northern Mariana Islands.
So is this benefit ONLY available on the American Express Business Platinum Charge Card, I wondered? I called American Express and got nowhere in trying to find out. I got sent through a maze of customer service people, spoke with managers, and even the insurance division of American Express couldn’t answer my simple question. Grant reached out with Twitter to American Express and the number they gave him to call also led me nowhere. So I tried, but sorry to say I have no idea if this benefit is for this particular card only.
I’ve never filed a baggage loss claim with American Express, have you? Was it handled well? Let us know!
Funny this card should be mentioned today — I’ve got the annual fee due this month on my 23-month old card. Fee was waived last year, but not this time. Somebody please remind me of the drill one needs to follow to avoid re-setting the 24-month clock for new signup bonus eligibility? How can I open a new card and get a signup bonus while still having this existing card in effect? And how long after paying the fee for this card and opening a new account can I cancel the older card yet receive a pro-rata refund of the $95? Thanks.
AMEX has a once per lifetime rule. Are you specifically asking about the AMEX Biz Plat Card?
Gas pressure on the brain. Since I’m 5′-10″, can I blame it on altitude? Indeed, I have the problem I described but it applies to the Citi AA biz card. Apologies, but suggested solutions still welcome up here where my neural synapses are dying.
HI Mike, Sure thing, altitude causes lots of issues :) Hope someone will see your request and chip in info on your Citi AA card question. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
