Good afternoon everyone, I hope your Friday is going well. A few years ago, I wrote in my 2018 travel predictions that “Southwest Airlines will increase their Transfarency by automatically keeping track of travel funds in each account.” I wrote that post on January 14, 2018, and it looks like my prediction came true on December 3, 2019. If you log into your Southwest Airlines account, you should see a new section at the top of your My Account page that says “My Travel Funds.” Click the View Travel Funds button to view your travel funds.
Unfortunately, it will only track travel funds if your Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards number was attached and if your ticket was cancelled on or after December 3, 2019. If you canceled a Southwest Airlines flight before December 3, 2019, you will still need to keep track of your travel funds on your own. To view the status of your current travel funds, click the Travel Fund Lookup link.
Enter the passenger’s first name, last name, confirmation number, verify the captcha, and then click the Check Now button.
You will now see the status of your travel funds. This is my brother’s account and he has $181.98 in travel funds that will expire on August 4, 2020.
I was hoping that the Travel Funds page in his Southwest Airlines account would magically start tracking the above travel funds, but sadly, that is not possible. I tried refreshing this page and logged out and back in, but nothing worked. It would be great if Southwest Airlines would retroactively go back and add travel funds from tickets cancelled before December 3, 2019. It should be possible, but might be resource intensive for Southwest Airlines.
Even though the new Travel Funds page is not 100% perfect, I expect it to be very helpful for myself and other Southwest Airlines fliers. What do you think of the new Travel Funds page? If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great weekend everyone!
You can buy a ticket and use the southwest funds and pay the remaining balance on a credit card and cancel that ticket within 24 hrs, it should show up in your account with that new ticket instead of an old sw record locator.
Yes I thought about that, but didn’t want to add that to the post since it might confuse readers with those steps. I track my travel finds on a spreadsheet which works pretty good for me.
I was excited when I saw this feature in my SWA account the other day. I often have travel funds from several cancelled reservations at a time.
That’s great to hear. Does it work well at keeping track of your travel funds?
