Good evening everyone, this post chronicles my day in the miles and points (and test driving) world. The first thing I did this morning was to sign up for a free CLEAR membership (similar to TSA PreCheck but only available at a few airports), thanks to Frequent Miler’s post. CLEAR only works at a few airports, SFO being one of them, so I thought I would check it out. The card does look pretty cool! I already have Global Entry / TSA PreCheck, so why do I need CLEAR? Great question, I’m still trying to figure that out…
This is the welcome email I received from CLEAR. I just need to bring my Passport and drivers license to CLEAR to get my permanent card approved.
The next Frequent Miler post was equally awesome. If you have a Safeway/Vons/Pavilions account, sign into your account and add the Ebay offer to your Just4U account. Receive a $5 discount on the purchase of 2 Ebay gift cards ($25 minimum amount per gift card). $5 of a $50 gift card purchase = 10% discount on all Ebay purchases.
The discount is applied instantly to your receipt.
My next miles and points errand was to “test drive” a 2014 Nissan Rogue Select to receive a $25 Amazon eGift Card. I walked into the dealership with my printed form and said, “I’m here to test drive a 2014 Nissan Rogue Select for an Amazon gift card.” The car salesman was quick and asked if I was interested in a test drive or if I just wanted the gift card. The gift card please :) Unfortunately, that particular dealership was out of gift cards, but was getting a new batch tomorrow morning, and I was told to call back tomorrow to come and pick up my gift card. No problem, I can walk to that dealership in about 10 minutes (across the street from Target).
My next stop was to the Kia dealership a few miles away. I drove my 2008 Kia Sportage to the dealership and showed the car salesman the test drive certificate (see below). He was serious and asked what car I was interested in driving. I told him I was interested in a 2015 Kia Sportage, so we drove the car around the block and he showed me all the cool features (new features that my 2008 model does not have).
Back at the dealership, he filled out the form and I was on my way. The car salesman needs to hand write the dealership name, dealer code, test drive date/time, vehicle driven, his name, and his signature. After that, you need to mail the completed form in to receive your $25 Visa Gift Card. I made a copy of my certificate in case it gets “lost in the mail.” All in all, a pretty fun afternoon. I’ll be back for you soon, 2015 Kia Sportage!
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great evening today!
P.S. anyone who has a Twitter or Facebook account needs to read this New York Times article: How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine Sacco’s Life. You might not remember her name, but she became infamous after tweeting “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” The articles was very eye opening and highlights the cruel world that social media can become. Definitely a must read.
Thanks for the tip on CLEAR. I fly Denver routinely but don’t have TSA Pre. This will be nice!
Glad I could help, CLEAR is definitely better than nothing :)
