Good morning everyone, I have some great news to share. 1 year ago today, I signed up for Discover’s Double Cash Back Match promo on July 6, 2015. I didn’t know what to expect, but the year has flown by and I am happy to report that my bonus Double Cash Back just posted, for a total bonus of $1,024!
I didn’t realize that the year was up already until I logged into my Discover It online account and spotted a whopping $1,035.36 in cash back. I used my Discover It Credit Card a lot in June, but not that much!
After looking at my online statement, I spotted the $1,024 bonus from the Double Cash Back Match.
I looked through all of my Discover It Credit Card statements from April 2015 through July 2016 and added up the cash back amounts. My statements start on the 6th of every month and close on the 5th of every month, so some cash back amounts post in a different month than they were earned. Plus, some cash back posts 1-2 months later (such as the ApplePay 10% bonus), so the spreadsheet is kind of hard to read. I added up all the cash back amounts from the statements but I can not figure out where the extra $86.21 came from. I’m sure it is an error on my side. I didn’t spend a ton of money on my Discover It Credit Card over the last 12 months, but if you did, you should see a huge cash back bonus. Here is what each column means:
- 5% Cash Back – all purchases made at rotating 5% cash back category merchants
- Discover Deals – Shop Discover shopping portal + ApplePay bonus + refer-a-friend bonuses
- 1% Cash Back – all other purchases made at merchants
If you signed up for the Discover It Double Cash Back Match last July, you should see your bonus cash back post this statement. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
P.S. A few days after writing this post, I received this email from Discover:
Nice! My 1 year will be coming around October looking forward to seeing how much it is. Don’t spend it all in one place!
I think the best use of Discover Cash Back is for travel gift cards. Cruise and rental car gift cards are half priced! I need to figure out what to do with the cash back.
Rental car is certificate is $20 for $40, limit one per rental. Do you have a technique to get more value? Example-1 reservation per day? Doesn’t see like that would work. If not what ways do you use to save more money on cars?
I have never used a rental car gift certificate before, I only read about it on Frequent Miler. I need to do more research.
Sign up for this promotion was last June(06/01 – 06/24) not July
I see, thank you for correcting me> I was basing the date off of the email I received from Discover, but that must have been late.
I’m confused. The promo was 6/1-6/24 not July? Then the promo came back at some point? Grant’s statement says his anniversary month is March which would put his 13th period at March not July. After thinking through this my anniversary month is June, tomorrow statement will be my 12th. So I should see it August 12th, which explains why I didn’t get an email today. This is provided I signed up during a promo period which I believe I did.
I’m confused as well. Just be patient and your cash back match should post any day.
I just got this card. Do they really double referral bonuses as well? I think this is generally an underrated card on travel websites.
I’m not sure if referral bonuses are doubled. That’s a great question. Anyone know?
Everything is doubled.
Thank you!

If I transfer a couple cards to this one will that money work toward the double deal? Also, what is the interest rate?
No, sorry. Balance transfers do not earn the cash back match. I’m not sure what the interest rates are, but you can see the current interest rates on Discover’s website.
