Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card Application Process, Card Design & Welcome Kit

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  2 weeks ago, I did an App-O-Rama where I applied for a bunch of credit cards, mostly with mixed results.  I will share more details of the App-O-Rama and reconsideration calls in another post, but today, I wanted to share my process of getting the new Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card (direct credit card link). The credit card is issued by Synchrony, the same bank that issues the Ebates Visa Signature Credit Card and many other store credit cards.  The credit card currently offers 50,000 Cathay Pacific Asia Miles after you spend $2,500 in 3 months.  Even though I don’t have concrete plans for the 50,000 Asia Miles, I am sure I can find a good use for them.  In this post, I will tell you about the application process and show you the card design and welcome kit.

I applied for this credit card toward the beginning of my App-O-Rama and waited 3+ months after my last App-O-Rama.  I was hoping for an instant approval, but I got a pending message with a phone number and reference number listed.  That was a good sign and I hoped Synchrony just needed to verify my address or some other personal information. I immediately called the number and spoke with a credit analyst.  She reviewed my application, confirmed some personal information, and submitted my application for approval.

A day or two later, I received an email from Synchrony regarding my Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card.  I clicked the link in the email to view the message.

Congratulations, I was approved for the new Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card.

A little more than a week later, the new credit card showed up in my mailbox.  Here is the front and back of the credit card.  I did not have a Cathay Pacific Asia Miles frequent flyer number before applying, so I did not enter an Asia Miles frequent flyer number on the application.  If I did, my Asia Miles frequent flyer number would show up on the front of the credit card where ASIA MILES is printed.

Here is the front and back of the credit card approval letter. On the front of the letter, you can see the earning structure for the Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card:

  • 2x on Cathay Pacific Flights
  • 1.5x on Restaurants
  • 1.5x on International Purchases
  • 1x on Everywhere Else

Here is the front and back of the brochure, which shows the same earning structure.  It also has details of the Asia Miles frequent flyer program and Marco Polo Club.

Here is the last letter from the welcome kit.  Here are some of the other perks for Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card members.  You get Green Tier Membership in the Marco Polo Club for the first year (not sure what that means).  You also get a 10% discount when you purchase or transfer Asia Miles.  Lastly, you get 2 day priority redemption for select discounted flight award tickets from time to time.  I’m not fond of the phrase “from time to time,” so we will have to wait and see what that means.

After I activated my new Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card, I created an online account and set up paperless statements and credit card alerts.  I also noticed that they offer live online chat, which is cool.  Lastly, I hope to meet the minimum spend requirements quickly and have the 50,000 Asia Miles sign up bonus in my account.

If you have any questions about the Cathay Pacific Visa Signature Credit Card, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

Will do. Short version: BofA Virgin Atlantic and Barclays Wyndham approvals :) Other apps were declined and reconsideration calls unproductive :(

    What was your credit limit?
Also what is the number you called to find out if you’re approved? It might be a good idea to get this card. 40,000 miles for JFK-YVR with AA flagship lounge in JFK ir CX lounge in THE all sound good.

Not super generous. I got around $8,000 credit limit. What have others gotten approved for?

I don’t plan on using this card more than to meet the $2,500 minimum spend requirement, so I don’t need a big credit limit.

I was approved as well, waiting for the card. same letter. hopefully, my credit limit will be generous enough to purchase a round-trip ticket going to the Philippines as a post 86th birthday gift.

Heard that credit line is impacted by your history with Cathay so frequent Cathay fliers with the same credit scores will get higher lines than folks with no Cathay experience.

Interesting. I got a pretty generous credit limit ($15K) and have never flown Cathay Pacific before, but I did have a Cathay Pacific frequent flyer account for a few years.
