Good morning everyone. I think I stumbled onto a way to redeem 2,500 Barclays Arrival Points for $25, but this only works when your annual fee posts. I haven’t used my Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card much since meeting the minimum spend requirements and cashing in the sign up bonus, so maybe this post will not be very useful. I just received an email that my $89 annual fee posted to my Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card. I thought I have a few Barclays Arrival Points in my account, so I wondered if I could use any of those points before I downgrade or convert to another credit card…
When I logged into my Barclays online account, I had 2,666 Barclays Arrival Points. What could I get with such a small points balance?
No gift cards, since the smallest redemption is 4,500 Barclays Arrival Points.
No cash back statement credit, since I needed 5,000 Barclays Arrival Points to get a $25 cash back statement credit.
My last option was the travel statement credit, but that required 10,000 Barclays Arrival Points. But wait, why did it show the Redeem Now link next to the $89 annual fee?
Surprisingly, it said that I could redeem 2,500 Barclays Arrival Points for a $25 travel statement. I clicked the Redeem link to see what would happen next.
It then showed me a preview of what my new account balance would be after redeeming 2,500 Barclays Arrival Points.
I also received a 5% rebate on the 2,500 Barclays Arrival Points redemption (2,500 x 0.05 = 125 Barclays Arrival Points). My new balance was 291 Barclays Arrival Points. I am pretty sure there is nothing I can do with 291 Barclays Arrival Points.
On the Rewards Activity page, it showed the $25 travel credit redemption.
I also received an email regarding the $25 travel credit redemption.
I was still skeptical that the $25 travel credit would post, but the following day, I logged back into my Barclays online account and saw the $25 travel credit posted to my Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card.
I then called Barclays and asked them to downgrade me from the Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card to the no annual fee Barclays Arrival Credit Card. No problem, the rep said. I also asked about the $89 annual fee getting refunded, and he said that would post in the next few days. He also shared with me a retention / targeted spending offer on my new Barclays Arrival Credit Card. I will share the details of that offer and the other offers I received on my other Barclays credit cards in a later post.

I have a regular Arrival card, not a plus, and I was wondering how to cash out my small arrival mile balance. Someone in one of these mile hacker facebook groups told me that when closing the account I would receive a payout related to how many miles remaining. I sent a message to Barclays to confirm this and they gave me this response, which seems different that what I previously thought;
“lease be advised that you can redeem your miles for cash back and pay yourself back statement credits, gift cards and merchandise. I didn’t think you could redeem that low of an amount on the Arrival
I think that is true, but I don’t have much experience with my no annual fee Barclays Arrival Credit Card.
