Good morning everyone. Long story short, I have a Citi Premier Credit Card and 3 Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards (I’m trying to spend $10,000 on each credit card every year to get the bonus 10,000 Citi Thank You Points every year). I only applied directly for one of these Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards (thanks for the $650 AT&T phone credit) and converted my old Citi Forward Credit Card and Citi Prestige Credit Card into additional Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards.
But somehow one of my Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards had a separate Citi Thank You Points account. Why is this a problem? Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards do not have the same transfer partners as my Citi Premier Credit Card. I will show you what I mean below. In this post, I will show you why it is better to have all of your Thank You Point earning credit cards linked to the same Citi Thank You Points account and show you how easy it is to combine your accounts (spoiler: just call Citi).
To demonstrate why having 2 Citi Thank You Points accounts is not better than 1, I clicked the blue Select button at the top of the page that only had 1,480 Citi Thank You Points.
Then I clicked the More Ways to Redeem tab at the top of the page, then clicked Points Transfer link.
Since this Citi Thank You Points account is linked to my Citi Premier Credit Card, I have the ability to transfer my Citi Thank You Points to any of Citi’s transfer partners. But since this Citi Thank You Account only has 1,480 Citi Thank You Points, I can’t transfer very many Thank You Points.
In contrast, my other Citi Thank You Points account (which is linked to one of my Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards) can only transfer Citi Thank You Points to Sears Shop Your Way. No thank you Citi! As you can see, this Citi Thank You Points account has 11,603 Citi Thank You Points. I really want all my Citi Thank You Points to be linked to the same Citi Thank You Points account.
I then called Citi and explained that I wanted all my Citi Thank You Points earning credit cards linked to the same Citi Thank You Points account. The rep noticed that the address on my lone Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card did not exactly match the address that was used for my 3 other Citi credit cards. The rep did not say what caused the address discrepancy, but it could have been as simple as “Drive” vs. “Dr.” or a 5 digit zipcode vs. a 9 digit zipcode. Actually, when I looked at my old credit card statements, it looks like I forgot to update 1 of my addresses after I moved. Oops! The rep was able to fix the address. I was told that the address was updated instantly, but the Citi website would take 1-2 days to reflect the change. Shortly after our call, I received an email from Citi stating my address was changed.
Moments later, I received another email from Citi stating that my Citi Thank You Points accounts were combined. I logged into my Citi account, but I still saw 2 different Citi Thank You Points accounts. I checked my account a few times over the next few days and after 2 days or so, all 4 of my Citi credit cards were linked to the same Citi Thank You Points account.
I was then able to log into my Citi account, go to my 1 and only Citi Thank You Points account and see all my Citi Thank You Points in the same account.
If you experience a similar issue with multiple Citi Thank You Points accounts, just call Citi, explain the problem, and wait 2 days for the fix. Do this now before you desperately need to make a Citi Thank You Points transfer to a travel partner. You will thank me later. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
I’ve had to do this every time I got a new Thank You account. The rep did tell me that if everything is not identical in your profiles, it won’t work and I believe she said that includes all phone numbers too. But yeah, a call is way less trouble. I tried to combine online both times and it was just a total waste of time.
I did notice that redemptions use the points that expire first so that’s a great thing. Thanks for your previous tip about the ATT Access More PC. I love that card.
Oh ya, I forgot that phone numbers had to match exactly too. Calling is definitely much easier than trying to fix it yourself online.
Glad you like your new Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card :)
SWEET – thanks for posting. This saved me time trying to figure it out on my own!
Happy to help, TJ :)
How do you know points from which account is being consumed ? in case of canceling one of the thank you card.
I believe you can see how many Thank You Points are linked to each credit card. I believe points that have the shortest expiration date are used first.
