Good afternoon everyone. Yesterday, it was announced that Wyndham Rewards and La Quinta Returns were allowing status matches and points transfers between both programs. This is great news if you have status or points in one program and want to get status or move points over to the other program.
Since I recently signed up for the Barclays Wyndham Rewards Visa Credit Card and received the 45,000 point sign up bonus, I have a lot of Wyndham Rewards points. I do have a few La Quinta points that I would like to transfer over to my Wyndham Rewards account. In this post, I will show you how to move points between Wyndham Rewards and La Quinta Returns and how to status match from one program to the other.
I will assume that most people want to match their Wyndham Rewards Platinum Elite Status to La Quinta Returns Elite Status and to move their La Quinta Returns points to their Wyndham Rewards account. To get started, click here and sign into your La Quinta Returns account. If you want to match to the other program or move points the other direction, scroll to the bottom of the post. To status match from your Wyndham Rewards Platinum Elite Status to La Quinta Returns Elite Status, click the green Match Your Status button.
Right now, I am a basic La Quinta Returns Silver Elite Member and have 1,500 La Quinta Returns points.
In comparison, I am a Wyndham Rewards Platinum Elite Member and have 50,000+ Wyndham Rewards points.
All you need to do is enter your Wyndham Rewards account number in the box and click the green Match My Status button.
Congratulations, you just matched your Wyndham Rewards Platinum Elite Status to La Quinta Returns Elite Status.
You elite status should instantly be updated to La Quinta Returns Elite.
Up next, if you want to convert your La Quinta Returns points into Wyndham Rewards points, click the green Transfer Your Points button on this page. Since you can only do transfers in 1,000 point increments, I was only allowed to transfer 1,000 La Quinta Returns points into 1,000 Wyndham Rewards points. If you get an error with the transfer, your last name or email address may differ. Lastly, it says that the transfer ratio (1,000 : 1,000) may change without notice, which makes me concerned that this transfer ratio may get worse in the future.
Congratulations, you just converted 1,000 La Quinta Returns points into 1,000 Wyndham Rewards points.
The transfer is instant and you will see the transfer details in your La Quinta Returns account activity.
Likewise, the transfer is instant and you can see the transfer details in your Wyndham Rewards account activity.
If you would rather match your La Quinta Returns elite status to your Wyndham Rewards elite status or convert Wyndham Rewards points into La Quinta Returns points, click here. To match your elite status, click the Match Your Status button.
Enter your La Quinta Returns account number and click the blue Match Your Status button. I didn’t try this since I am already at the highest tier of Wyndham Rewards elite status.
If you want to convert your Wyndham Rewards points into La Quinta Returns points, click here and then click the Transfer Your Points button. Enter your La Quinta Returns account number and the number of points you want to transfer. I didn’t try this transfer because I am trying to move all my La Quinta Returns points out of my account.
However, it may make sense to transfer Wyndham Rewards points into La Quinta Returns points because La Quinta has several different levels of free nights, whereas Wyndham Rewards charges 15,000 points for all of their properties.
If you have any questions about the status matches or points transfers, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
Thanks for writing about this–I wouldn’t have known this is doable now otherwise! I didn’t have a La Quinta account before but after checking out their hotels in the area that I will be visiting in July, I quickly found a good redemption hotel option of 8000 points only! The rate for my date is $150+tax and this is a better hotel than the other Wyndham hotels in the area. It’s really nice to be able to have a good redemption value from the Wyndham points. Thank you again!
That is a great use of La Quinta Return points. Enjoy your hotel stay :)
