Alaska Airlines: Ticket Prices DO Go Down!

Sometimes I have bits of great information to share with you, but they don’t warrant a whole blog post on their own. So today I’m creating an Alaska Airlines Kitchen Galley Sink post to offer some reminders and stories.

Ticket Prices Do Go Down!

Recently I had a frustrating experience with Alaska Airlines when the price of my ticket went down. It’s a challenge to keep track of whether or not the prices I pay for airline tickets go DOWN in price. Why not get a refund I can use towards future flights, right?

Boeing 737-700s are getting a facelift

Boeing 737-700s are getting a facelift and I’m paying less for my seat!

Let me give you an example. Alaska made a schedule change to one of my flights that didn’t work well for me. I called to see what other flights I could take. I was looking at their website and obviously so was the agent. I had him change the flights, confirm the price, and then just after we hung up I noticed the fare had gone down $50 from when I booked it.

I get that Alaska doesn’t want to lose money, but did the agent really not see the price difference? Is it possible agents are not allowed to tell me fares have gone down? That would have been great customer service! So I called Alaska back and asked for the refund. This new agent can see what I saw on their website but can’t get her computer to get me the $50. She puts me on hold……twice…….while she called the ticketing desk.

The refund went through but come on, Alaska, when your agents see that the price on a fare has gone down, TELL US! The point really is that WE have to figure out some system for checking our airfares post purchase because they do go down. I’m doing it rather haphazardly, so I’d be happy to know if anyone has a system that works well.

Don’t Forget the 20 Minute Guarantee

Do you keep track of the 20 minute guarantee? I really enjoy racing against Alaska’s 20 minute checked baggage service guarantee. It takes my attention away from all that happens during the often laborious deplaning experience. Here’s what Alaska says about their policy:

“We know that instead of waiting at baggage claim you’d rather be out enjoying your destination, or settling in back at home. That’s why we are committed to getting you on your way faster, and we’ve been making that commitment for years. Since 2010 we have put a guarantee behind our baggage delivery. If your bags are not at baggage claim within 20 minutes of your plane’s arrival at the gate, we’ll offer you a $25 discount code for use on a future Alaska Airlines flight, or 2,500 Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan™ bonus miles. In the rare instance that we don’t meet our 20 minute guarantee, just get ahold of us within 2 hours of your flight’s arrival for your discount code or miles. You can simply speak with one of our customer service agents at the airport.”

Alaska really is amazing at getting me my bag at minute 19, but I track this each and every time. I can never have enough Alaska miles to book my award trips, so each and every 2500 miles helps! Have you had luck scooping up those $25 vouchers or 2500 miles lately?

Bonus Miles

And speaking of Alaska miles, if you were targeted for their latest promotion of 50% off, it’s as good a sale as Alaska ever offers. The sale expires October 4, so there’s still time to decide.

Bottom Line

Well since the galley sink on an Alaska plane isn’t really all the big, this does it for now. Hope these reminders put some money back in your pocket and miles in your Alaska accounts!
