Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well. During the current Coronavirus Pandemic, it is important to save money on everyday purchases. I recently wrote how to Use Trim to Save Money on Cable / TV / Internet / Phone Utility Bills. In today’s post, I am going to show you how to save money on your electricity bill with Arcadia and earn 5% cash back paying your bill. Most electricity utility companies charge you a fee to pay your bill with a credit card, but with Arcadia, you can use a credit card without paying any fees. Plus, if you have a US Bank Cash+ Credit Card, you can earn 5% cash back (just select the Home Utilities cash back category). Keep reading to find out how to earn a $25 utility bill credit.
I first wrote about Arcadia (previously called Arcadia Power) in January 2019 and have been using the service ever since. In Northern California, we use PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) for our electricity. I linked my PG&E account to my Arcadia account and use my US Bank Cash+ to pay my monthly electricity bill. If I paid PG&E directly, I would pay $1.30 per credit card payment ($15.60 per year in credit card fees), but with Arcadia, there is no fee to pay my electricity bill with a credit card.
Here are the transaction details for my most recent payment. Arcadia charges my credit card directly and then sends the payment to PG&E. The Arcadia charge goes through as a utility payment, so I earn 5% cash back on the transaction.
In the US Bank Rewards History section, it shows that my previous Arcadia payments earned 5% cash back (1% for the transaction + 4% bonus cash back).
When I first wrote about Arcadia Power in 2019, my referral link would only give you a $10 utility bill credit.
But since then, I am now part of the Arcadia Ambassador Program, so my referral link will get you a $25 utility bill credit. To get started, click the Check Eligibility button.
Enter your zipcode and select your utility company from the drop down menu.
Then select your energy plan. If you want to keep your electricity plan as is, select the Free Plan. If you want to switch to 100% clean energy, select the Premium Plan.
I started with the Free Plan but eventually switched to the Premium Plan since it was only a few dollars more per month and I wanted to use 100% clean energy. Depending on where you live and your local utility company, you may be able to switch to wind energy or solar power.
Follow the remaining steps to link your utility company and add your payment information with Arcadia. When your next bill is due, Arcadia will receive your bill and charge your card. If you signed up with my referral link, you should get $25 off your first utility payment. After your card is charged, Arcadia will transfer the funds to your utility company to pay your bill. That’s all there is to it.

Hi Jerry, that’s good to hear. Do you currently use a US Bank Cash+ CC to pay your electricity bill to earn 5% cash back?
I use the utility company in my area (Ameren) for electric distribution but use a third party supplier for electric supply and get a single bill from Ameren. I wonder if I can use Arcadia under these circumstances.
That is a great question. I would assume if you pay your electricity bill to Ameren, Arcadia should be able to work with Ameren. Start the process and see if Ameren is an option for your zip code. Good luck!
