Good morning everyone, I hope you enjoyed reading yesterday’s post: Redeem Wyndham Rewards Points Part 1: Transfer Points to Airline Miles & Timeshare Fees. For today’s post, I will cover transferring points from Wyndham Rewards to Caesars Rewards (and vice versa), calculate the transfer times for each direction, and share a tip on how to extend your Wyndham Rewards Points expiration date. To get started, sign into your Wyndham Rewards account and then go to the Caesars Rewards page.
You can transfer Wyndham Rewards Points to Caesars Rewards Points in 10,000 point increments (1:1 transfer ratio). This might be one of the best redemption options available for Wyndham Rewards.
For this test, I transferred 10,000 Wyndham Rewards Points into 10,000 Caesars Rewards Points on February 16, 2021. According to the website, the points should post to my Caesars Rewards account in the next 7-14 days (between February 23 and March 2).
I also received a confirmation email with details of my Wyndham Rewards Points transfer. I wish the emails were a little more specific and mentioned which travel partner the points were sent to.
I then went to my Wyndham Rewards account and looked at the My Activity section. I can see my transfers to United Airlines (from yesterday’s post) and to Caesars Rewards.
I checked my Caesars Rewards account every day until I saw the 10,000 points post on February 22, 2021 (~6 days after the transfer from Wyndham Rewards). Strangely, Caesars Rewards does not have a page that shows account activity, which would seem obvious for a rewards program.
Since it took ~6 days for points to go from Wyndham Rewards to Caesars Rewards, I wanted to see how quickly points could be transferred the other way. To transfer points from Caesars Rewards to Wyndham Rewards, sign into your Caesars Rewards account and click on Rewards Match & Exchange. Then click the Wyndham Rewards logo.
From here, you can select the number of Caesars Rewards Points you want to transfer to Wyndham Rewards Points. Since I had 10,000 points in my Caesars Rewards account, I selected 10,000 Rewards Credits from the drop down menu. I entered my Wyndham Rewards account number and clicked the Transfer button.
According to the terms, you can transfer up to 30,000 points to Wyndham Rewards per year and the transfer time is 6-8 weeks.
The transfer is not instant, so I had to wait 1-2 days for my Caesars Rewards account to refresh and show 0 points. Like I mentioned earlier, there is no account activity page to see any recent transactions. I didn’t even get an email about incoming points or outgoing points, which Caesars Rewards should also set up.
I checked my Wyndham Rewards account every day until I saw the 10,000 points post on February 25, 2021 (~3 days after the transfer from Caesars Rewards). I’m very surprised the transfer was so quick (much faster than the stated 6-8 weeks).
If you have Wyndham Rewards Points, you should check the expiration date of your points. Wyndham Rewards Points expire 4 years after you earn them. When you redeem points, the points with the earliest expiration date are used first. When I checked the expiration date before I made my transfers to United Airlines and Caesars Rewards, I had 31,831 points expiring on October 31, 2021. After redeeming 16,000 points, I now have only 15,831 points that expire on October 31, 2021.
How to extend your Wyndham Rewards Points expiration date
I do not think there is a cap on the number of points you can transfer from Wyndham Rewards to Caesars Rewards, but there is a cap of 30,000 points you can transfer from Caesars Rewards to Wyndham Rewards. Therefore, if you have 30,000 points or less that expire with Wyndham Rewards, you can transfer 30,000 points to Caesars Rewards and then transfer those 30,000 points back to Wyndham Rewards. Those incoming points will then have a new 4 year expiration. If I am not able to use the 15,831 Wyndham Rewards Points before they expire on October 31, 2021, I will make sure to transfer the points to Caesars Rewards and back to Wyndham Rewards to extend the expiration date.
If you have any questions about transferring points to / from Caesars Rewards or about the expiration date, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone
The activity will show on the monthly Caesar My Rewards statement (February bot yet available). They will however be lumped together under “Caesars Rewards Alliances”. An activity page would be nice,
The 30K max transfer applies BOTH ways, I’ve transferred 30,000 this year to Caesar Rewards and it will NOT let me do any more.
I am not sure if it would let me transfer more to CR if I first transferred some back to Wyndham, thereby reducing the net points transfered to CR for the year, I suspect not.
I have never transferred to Wyndham, especially after doing one to CR, so I wasn’t sure if it would act like a booking and cancellation , and keep the original expiration date. Good to know it does not.
I do find 30K CR credits ($300) if used right) usually goes go a lot further than 30K Wyndham points used in any other way, This is assuming you use the CR credits towards you hotel bill. Especially when you’ve done the Diamond match and avoid expensive weekends..
As long as you will use the credits I find you get much more value from the transfer to Wyndham than any of the other partners. Totally ignoring the expiration aspect I max the transfer to CR each year. I sometimes spread the transfers through the year since CR credits expire in 6 months with no activity, You can also extend expiration with sayandplay surveys. Just refuse to answer an income or asset question and you will usually be disqualified from that survey, but still get 5 points and the resulting expiration extension..
Hi Carl, thanks for the heads up about the Caesar My Rewards statement, I don’t think I have ever gotten a statement before, but February was the only month that I had activity.
Bummer than the 30K max applies both ways. I wonder what would happen if you had multiple Caesars Rewards account, could you transfer 30K to each account? And then could you transfer 30K back to the same Wyndham Rewards account? This might be a clever way of moving points / combining points between multiple Wyndham Rewards accounts.
$300 credit at Caesars does sound much more valuable than 30K Wyndham Rewards Points. Bummer to hear that Caesars Rewards has a 6 month expiration period, but the survey tip is helpful.
Thanks for all the helpful info :)
Grant – I don’t think they send a statement. You have to look it up on the web site,
I’m not sure if you can have two Caesar Rewards accounts. I’m sure some other reader knows.
Hi Carl, good to know about the statement. I will check my account for the next few days and see if the statement is available.
If anyone has any data points on having multiple Caesars Rewards accounts, please let me know. Thank you.
This is great info! I assume that you’re assuming the double transfer extends the life of your points based on the fact that after transferring back to Wyndham, you have the same points you started with but it now states that only 15,831 points expire on 10/31/21. Is that correct or was there some other piece of info that makes you believe those 10k points don’t expire on 10/31/21 now?
The only thing I’ll mention is it’s probably best (in general) to call in to confirm amounts of points that expire when, not specifically for your scenario. The reason I say this is because the notification on my account says 515 points expire on 06/30/21, but when I called in to ask about any other points expiring in 2021, the rep actually said that I have about 35k points expiring on 06/30/21. So I’m glad I called in to double check instead of just letting the points expire since I was under the impression that I would lose only 515 points. Anyway, great article Grant!
Hi Mac, yes, transferring 10,000 Wyndham Rewards Points to Caesars Rewards and then back to Wyndham Rewards made those 10,000 points have a new 4 year expiration date. Good tip about calling into Wyndham Rewards to ask about the points that are set to expire shortly after the listed expiration date.
Is there a typo in your second date? “The reason I say this is because the notification on my account says 515 points expire on 06/30/21, but when I called in to ask about any other points expiring in 2021, the rep actually said that I have about 35k points expiring on 06/30/21.”
That’s great. Thanks Grant.
No typo. The notification in my account said 515 points expiring on 06/30/21, but the rep said that the actual number of points expiring on 06/30/21 was around 35k. There were no other points expiring in 2021 according to her. I asked if it was common that the expiring points shown in the notification did not actually include all points that were set to expire on that date and she said that the notification might not include all expiring points, which seems a little ridiculous. It’s possible the rep told me incorrectly even though I asked multiple times if that was correct. I don’t know…just an FYI for everyone to do their due diligence to keep points alive.
Hi Mac, thank you for confirming. Wyndham Rewards never stops surprising me (see my recent post about their credit card not earning the correct category bonus for more entertainment).
The next time I call Wyndham Rewards, I will double check with them regarding the points expiration.
From the call I made once I don’t think they have any great tool to check it. She just had to look at the history and total things up manually. I wouldn’t rule out an error by the agent, but I guess you need to do something to play it safe.
Hello! Thanks for the info, but I’m still confused about one aspect of the transferring limits. Is it max 30k points total in one year, as in if I transfer 30k from Wyndham to Caesar, that’s it for the year and I cannot transfer back from C to W until next year? Or is it 30k max for each program, as in I can transfer 30k from W to C now, and then 30k from C to W later within the same year? I hope I don’t confuse you with my wording, but I can’t find any clarification regarding the 30k limit anywhere. Thanks again!
Hi CJ, I *think* it’s 30k each way, and I’m not 100% sure those limits are enforced either.
