Real-Time Rewards Not Working on my US Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards Credit Card

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  This post will probably not help most people, but if you have the US Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards Credit Card, like I do, you might appreciate this post.  Long story short, I earned the $500 Cash Rewards sign up bonus and wanted to redeem the sign up bonus.  I am a big fan of Real-Time Rewards and have used it many times with my US Bank Altitude Reserve Credit Card.  In the US Bank Rewards Portal, I enrolled in the Real-Time Rewards program, selected the $25 minimum purchase amount and checked the box to enroll all categories.

According to the timestamp, I enrolled in Real-Time Rewards for this credit card on November 9 at 11:22am CT (or 9:22am PT).

About 22 minutes later, I made a $45.66 Amazon gift card balance reload purchase (to bring my US Bank Cash Rewards balance down to $500).  I assumed I would get the Real-Time Rewards text but after waiting 20+ minutes, no text arrived.

Maybe Amazon didn’t work, let me try again.  I bought myself a $45.66 Southwest Airlines gift card.  I waited another 20 minutes, but I never received a Real-Time Rewards text.

2 days later when those 2 purchases posted to my account, I called US Bank to find out why I wasn’t receiving Real-Time Rewards texts for my purchases.  The rep said I was successfully enrolled in the Real-Time Rewards program, my cell phone number was verified, and those 2 purchases should count.  After putting me on hold for a few minutes to research the issue, she told me that I needed to wait roughly 24 hours for the US Bank system to update and for Real-Time Rewards to be fully activated.  That made sense since the 2 purchases I made above were within 1 hour of activating Real-Time Rewards for that credit card.  The rep said they would pass along my experience to the engineering team and the rep provided me a $25 courtesy credit for my trouble.

Fast forward to this morning, I received the official Real-Time Rewards enrollment email from US Bank.  Surely that meant my credit card was fully enrolled in the Real-Time Rewards program, right?

I made a $25 Amazon gift card balance reload purchase and waited for the Real-Time Rewards text.  Again, no text ever arrived.

At this point, I am giving up on Real-Time Rewards working on this credit card and will just cash in my rewards for a statement credit.  If you have the US Bank Business Triple Cash Rewards Credit Card, have you had success with Real-Time Rewards?  I would love to hear your positive or negative experience.  If you have any questions about Real-Time Rewards, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

    Like you, real time rewards never worked for me. With the exception of Uber credit loads, it didn’t work for rental cars or hotels. It’s one of the reasons I dropped the US Bank altitude reserve.

      Hi Steven, thanks for sharing your experience with RTR. I have had good luck with RTR on my US Bank Altitude Reserve CC. I mainly book domestic flights and award tickets and pay the taxes with the credit card. It’s been a few months since I last used RTR on that CC.

    Found this post when I was having issues with RTR in 2024! So forgive me if I’m replying to a sleeper post. Myself & P2 both had USB Alt Reserve and RTR enrolled onto my one cell phone number. Worked ok until I inadvertantly hit STOP one day on RTR text.

    Then the issues began. I tried to reset and re-enroll in RTR both online and over the phone with a rep. Nothing doing for either card. D’oh. All my settings were correct and the rep verified that, but it didn’t work. Had split the 2 accounts now to redeem to 2 different cell phone numbers.

    Un-enrolled both from RTR and let the accounts sit for a week plus. Went back re-enrolled both and now they’re working as expected. Had given up hope, but somehow the week plus un-enrollment seemed to have remove the issue from each account and reset it to work. Not sure of the IT behind it, but that’s my experience.

      Thank you for sharing your experience and letting me know that being unenrolled in RTT for a week was enough time to wait before re-enrolling in RTR. Happy earning and redeeming USB points :)
