Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend. Back in December 2022, Laura and I were both impacted by the Southwest Airlines travel disruption. I filled out the online form, provided our alternative travel receipts (we ended up flying Alaska Airlines instead of Southwest Airlines), and then received this Southwest Airlines confirmation email with our case number. That was back on December 30, 2022, and I expected to hear back from Southwest Airlines sometime in January.
On January 4, we did receive 2 emails regarding Southwest Airlines Gesture of Goodwill 25,000 Point Award Codes (which I wrote about here), but we didn’t hear anything about our case number through the end of February. Since the email below does not have an email address that you can respond to, I submitted another request with Southwest Airlines and asked for a status update on our case.
The next day, on March 1, I received this response from Southwest Airlines stating that they had reviewed my receipts and approved us for a final payment of $870.60 (which exactly matched the cost of our 2 Alaska Airlines tickets). An email from Hyperwallet (a service provided by PayPal) would arrive the next day with a link to claim the payment. Keep this email since it contains your Customer ID which is necessary to claim your payment from Hyperwallet.
The next morning, on March 2, I received the email from Hyperwallet to claim my $870.60 payment. To get started, I clicked the Claim Payment button.
Hyperwallet allows you to select from 6 different payment options: PayPal, Venmo, Bank ACH, Bank Debit Card, Paper Check, or MoneyGram. I selected Bank ACH since I wanted the money in my checking account and clicked the Continue button.
This screen asks for your Customer ID number. I went back to my email from Southwest Airlines from yesterday and copied the Customer ID number from the email and pasted it into the text box on this screen, then I clicked the Continue button.
I then filled in my information and clicked the Continue button.
I then filled in my checking account information and clicked the Submit button. There is no fee for this payment method and the funds should be in my checking account in the next 1-3 business days.
Congratulations, I successfully requested the funds be transferred to my checking account.
I then received a confirmation email from Hyperwallet with the details of my Bank ACH.
The next day, on March 3, I received the $870.60 payment in my Wells Fargo checking account. The memo read: “HSI USA INC PAYMENT 230303” along with “2022 SOUTHWEST REIMBURSEMENT.”
I am very happy that Southwest Airlines provided the 2 Southwest Airlines Gesture of Goodwill 25,000 Point Award Codes along with the travel reimbursement, but I wish I didn’t have to follow up with Southwest Airlines 2 months later to get the ball rolling again. If you haven’t received an update to your initial Southwest Airlines case number, try reaching out to Southwest Airlines via phone, email, or their online form for an update. I hope you get your full reimbursement payment soon. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
