Hotel Review: Hilton Munich City as Diamond Elite Member (Executive Lounge + Nearby S-Bahn Station)

Good evening everyone, greetings from Venice, Italy.  Here is a quick hotel review from my short 2 night stay at the Hilton Munich City.  After we landed, we took the S8 S-Bahn train from the airport to the hotel.  The Hilton is within steps of the Rossenheimer Platz station (Google Maps) and costs €10.80 for a one way trip.  I used Hilton HHonors points for one night and my Hilton Free Weekend Night Certificate for the other night (thanks to the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Credit card and the $10,000+ spend I put on the card).  Check-in was very easy and I was excited to see what being a Hilton Diamond felt like for the first time.  I got a nice room on the 5th floor and access to the executive lounge on the 6th floor.

After entering the room, there was a closet and storage area on the left hand side and the bathroom on the right.

This room had a lot of storage space for our luggage and free space to spread out.

The bathroom shower was great with plenty of hot water and great water pressure.  The sink worked as well as expected.

The room was the largest room we have had on our trip thus far.  2 twin/double beds were connected to make a king size bed.  The table and chairs were very comfortable.  The TV swivels so you can comfortably watch TV from the bed or from the couch/chairs.

I wish I had pictures of the executive lounge but I always arrived late and the food/snack selection was pretty picked over.  Plenty of drinks and pastries were always available though.  Even though there are designated times when food is served in the lounge, you can access the lounge anytime and eat whatever they have out.

On the first night in Munich, we went to Hofbrauhaus and had beer, a giant pretzel and a few sausages.  As we were leaving, we met 2 friendly guys from Austria who invited us out for a shot.  1 shot turned in 3 or 4 and a few beers later.  Long story short, I don’t remember much from that evening.

After sleeping off a hangover, we found a local laundromat called Wash and Coffee (half cafe and half laundromat) to wash our clothes.  They offer self-service or a full-service option.  They were really busy so we were only allowed to drop off our clothes for the full-service option.  I believe each load of laundry cost about €7-8.  Not the cheapest laundromat in the world, but far cheaper than using the hotel’s laundry service (€4 to wash a pair of socks, anyone?).

The following day, I got a haircut by a German man.  In the salon, I opened a nearby German gossip magazine and pointed to a photo of Christiano Ronaldo.  I wanted a stylish haircut and the stylist did his best to transform my hair into the hair of one of the sexiest men in the world (People Magazine, 2012).  Just imagine this haircut on me… pretty good huh?

Munich was a pretty relaxing stay for us.  When I was looking for flights from Nice, France, to Venice, Italy, I found a cheap flight on Lufthansa connecting in Munich.  The cost was the same whether we did a 2 hour connection or a 2 day stopover, so we opted to do the free stopover.  I am glad I got to do my laundry and get a haircut.  This was my first international haircut and it was an interesting experience due to the language barrier and different hair styles.

With Citi Reserve, in order to earn a free night, do you have to put $10,000 spend after the anniversary (once the annual fee is charged) or before the anniversary? Thank you.

If you open the card in March 2015, you have to spend $10,000 or more until your statement closes in March 2016. The annual fee does t count toward the spend.

I hate getting haircuts when I travel unless I go to an Asian hair stylist. Asians have a different hair type so hair stylists who don’t cut Asian hair too often are a no-go… I’ve had haircuts by Caucasian hair stylists at luxury salons which were horrible.. literally looked like a rice bowl was placed over my hair and they just trimmed around it.

Yes, I know what you mean. I don’t like getting a haircut away from my “usual” spot. Nothing worse than getting a terrible haircut and paying more than you normally do.
