RadPad can Pay your Rent… and your Mortgage

Update 6:45am PST on 2/26/2015: Never mind, according to RadPad, “Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to process rent payments. We have very strict contractual guidelines with our Pay with RadPad partners that do not allow us to process anything else, and we really can’t jeopardize that relationship.”

Good morning everyone, I’m sure everyone has heard of RadPad, right?  It is the latest way to pay your rent with a debit card (free) or credit card (2.99%).  If you looked at RadPad’s home page, you would assume that it is only possible to pay your rent with the service, since the word ‘rent’ is mentioned 6 times on the home page.  But I bet you didn’t know you could pay your mortgage with RadPad too, did you?

Pay Rent with RadPad

Full disclosure: I have never used RadPad, so the following information and screenshots come from my friend.

He liked the idea of paying rent with a debit card (using either a UFB Direct, SunTrust Debit, or PayPal Business Debit) but he has a monthly mortgage payment, not a rent payment.  After a few emails to RadPad, he was able to add his mortgage company as a payee and pay his mortgage payment with his debit card.

If you are interested in paying your mortgage with RadPad, send an email to Jeff Bishop, the Vice President of Marketing & Customer Service at RadPad.  His email address is jeff at onradpad dot com.  There is no guarantee that RadPad will be able to pay your mortgage company, but it is worth a shot.

Here is an email update after RadPad mailed the check to my friend’s mortgage company.  I assume RadPad’s “Rent Guarantee” also covers mortgage payments.

A few days later, the mortgage payment was received and deposited by my friend’s mortgage company.  Since RadPad stores your payee’s address, you can automatically pay your mortgage every month, earning miles or cash back with your debit card.

Lastly, here is my friend’s review of RadPad:

My experience with RadPad has been superb.  They have answered any questions I’ve had and addressed any concerns in a timely manner.  Both by email and phone.  I am using my debit card to make my mortgage payment and earn airline miles.  I can select an amount to pay and the date I want payment made.  One thing to keep in mind is that RadPad mails a check by USPS from California.  You should allow at least 5 business days.  There is no fee for debit card payment up to $4999.  Debit card payment of $5000 and up will incur a $9.95 fee.  I believe credit card payment fee is 2.99%.  At this time highly recommend RadPad.  I made my second mortgage payment with them on 2/18/15.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

For in store, yes. But you can do online debit loads. I just hadn’t had success with it on my Soft-Serve account. That question just made me wonder if it would work with redbird online ($200/day).

Thanks, Grant! Curious about same issue for the ST/UFBers out there. Just paid March 1 rent via RentShare dot com at 2.9% to help hit a min spend. Nearly a full percent lower.

I have a question, I just pay my rent by going into my landlords bank and depositing the money in an account he has setup, how would this work? We don’t send him a check, since he’s in Florida.

Ask your landlord if he is able to accept and deposit checks. If not, you might be able to have RadPad mail you the check which you can deposit into your landlord’s account.

I sent an email to Jeff about my Wells Fargo Mortgage. If the reply is positive, I’ll load my Paypal Biz Debit w/ 5x hotel card and pay the mortgage. Also, you answered about mailing a check that could be deposited in a landlord account. Why not load $5K on a paypal debit and have a check sent to a relative or friend?

so you would buy the mypaypal cards with cc and then transfer them to paypal? then send a check to a friend/relative? or just unload to your bank account? don’t you pay a fee for the mycash cards?

$5K load on PPcash would cost $39 generating 25K hotel points. I consider 25K points worth a minimum of $200 because of the bogo. My last stay in Aruba, 25K was worth $700 per night for the upgrade I was given. Not a bad return.

Nevermind, it is the US Bank Club Carlson card…good card…I don’t have it, though…And I would never MS on hotel cards anyway…

Thank you so much to everyone for writing to me to ask about paying your mortgage with RadPad! We are really thrilled to be a part of the conversation here. Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to process rent payments. We have very strict contractual guidelines with our Pay with RadPad partners that do not allow us to process anything else, and we really can’t jeopardize that relationship.

We also just updated our FAQ to address this so we don’t confuse anyone in the future. You can view that here: https://www.onradpad.com/paymyrent/faq

Again, I would really like to thank each of you who have reached out to me directly and to Grant for writing about us. I really wish we had a solution for each of you!

    Hi David,

Thanks so much for writing in. We were really thrilled to see that our products are being discussed organically on blogs that focus on points and loyalty programs. Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to process rent payments. We have very strict contractual guidelines with our Pay with RadPad partners that do not allow us to process anything else, and we really can’t jeopardize that relationship.

We have also just updated our FAQ to address this situation, which you can view here: https://www.onradpad.com/paymyrent/faq

Again, we are flattered that you would like to run your mortgage payment through us, but at this time we are unable to honor your request.

    Best,
    Jeff

Ah, the importance of actually fact checking with the source, rather than repeating hearsay.

Thanks for providing the email to do so… :-)

Got the same message as @DavidNJ. Fortunately, I hadn’t actually tried to schedule the payment, though it appears that the RadPad site would have let me.

Hi Grant or any miles & points senior, I’m pretty new in this game, which debit cards are more suited for using RadPad to make rent payments to maximize rewards? Thanks!

    Hi Grant,

Any word on whether Paypal has been shutting down PPBDC transactions funded by PPcash purchased at CVS?

    Thanks!

My PayPal account was shut down for buying PPMCCs. I did just about everything wrong, except for withdrawing funds to my bank account. I would stay away from PPMCCs.

Update. Radpad still doesn’t allow Mortgage payments. They seem to be working this business model to seek out landlords to get them to use the Radpad on the back end to rent properties as well so this makes sense.
