Hotel Review: Sheraton Presidente San Salvador Hotel (Great Location, Lounge & Breakfast)

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  After a quick stop in Guatemala City with a 1 night stay at the Courtyard Marriott Guatemala City and a fun afternoon trip to the Guatemala City Zoo, we flew from Guatemala City (GUA) to San Salvador (SAL), the capital of El Salvador.  We stayed at the Sheraton Presidente San Salvador Hotel using 4,000 SPG Points (it would have been only 3,000 SPG Points if we stayed on the weekend).

The property is beautiful, with lots of palm trees and country flags near the hotel entrance.  The hotel is ~45 minutes away from the airport, so we asked the hotel to organize a taxi for us (cost was $30).  After we checked out, we used Uber to get back to the airport for ~$21. Checking into the hotel was easy and we were upgraded to a nice room on the club floor thanks to my friend’s SPG Platinum Elite Status.  We had access to the Club Lounge (great food and snacks) and free breakfast in the restaurant.

Near the hotel lobby, there are walls filled with photos of US presidents and other international leaders who have stayed at this hotel.  Near the elevators, there is a good photo op in front of the country flags.

The beds in our room were very comfy and the hotel provided a small welcome gift (emphasis on small).

The bathroom was spacious and had a cool mirror feature that would turn the white line around the mirror from white light to a dark shade of blue.  Works as a great night light.

We stopped by the lounge for snacks and they had a great selection of food, snacks, desserts, and drinks.

For breakfast, we went down to the restaurant.  The breakfast buffet spread was very good.  I love fruit juices, fruits, pastries, and bread, so I made sure to try everything.  They do have traditional American breakfast food like omelets, sausage, hash browns, etc, but I skipped those items, but I am sure they are good.

If you are lucky (or unlucky), you will see a flock of loud birds (I later learned that they are guinea fowl that belong to the hotel president).  They must stop by often, because one of the server ran out with a jar of treats to lead them away from the restaurant, and they all followed in line.

If you have plans to stay in San Salvador, this hotel is a great choice.  I will definitely stay here again if I make it back down to San Salvador.  If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great day everyone!

P.S. The next post will be about our day trip to the nearby volcano (~30 minutes from the hotel) and an amazing pupusa restaurant.  Stay tuned!

The birds are guinea fowl — widely domesticated around the world. In fact, I had them growing up on a farm in Louisiana. They are most definitely not a kind of peacock.
