Good evening everyone, the hits keep coming from American Express. Earlier today, I reported that American Express is no longer awarding Membership Rewards points for cash equivalents & person-to-person payments. And just now, I looked at my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card and saw that the OPEN Savings Program is ending June 1, 2018. I’m not why the program is ending, but I guess the program costs American Express more money than the program brings in.
I went to the OPEN Savings Program homepage and looked around for any notice of the June 1, 2018 closing date. Nope, nothing there. I think the downfall is that the OPEN Featured Partners include FedEx, Hertz, HP, and 1-800-Flowers. Those are not the most exciting companies to shop at. I did like earning free Membership Reward Points when I bought HP.com gift cards. As the program stands now, you can earn 2 bonus Membership Reward Points or an extra 5% cash back if you shop at select merchants and pay with your OPEN-enrolled American Express business credit or charge card.
Will this change negatively affect you or have you never earned any bonus points / cash back from the OPEN Savings Program? With such bad news from American Express lately, I wonder if they have any good news coming out soon. We will have to wait and see. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great evening everyone!
Well, I’ll be cancelling the Simply Cash card given this change.
You have until June 1, so don’t cancel your Amex Biz CC just yet. Please make sure to tell Amex that you are closing the card for this exact reason.
I’ll be switching all my FedEx spend to CIP now. $260k/year.
Dang, that’s a lot of shipments!
