Good morning everyone. As part of my Mini July App-O-Rama, I was approved for the Chase IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card. The sign up bonus was for 80,000 IHG Points after spending $2,000 in 3 months + $50 statement credit after your first purchase. A few days before my new credit card arrived, Chase increased the sign up bonus to 100,000 IHG Points after spending $3,000 in 3 months, so I sent Chase a Secure Message (SM) to get matched to that offer. A few days later, I shared my welcome letter & card art; and a few days after that, I shared details of the $50 statement credit.
Chase responded to my Secure Message stating that after I spend $3,000 in 3 months on my new Chase IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card, I should respond to the Secure Message and let them know when the $3,000 spending was complete. Chase would then manually add 20,000 IHG Points to my account. I am happy to share the details of Chase’s Secure Message response. The Chase rep verified that I spent more than $3,000 on my new credit card and stated that the 20,000 IHG Points would post to my IHG account on my next credit card statement. Luckily, I didn’t have to wait long…
2 days after getting Chase’s Secure Message response, my Chase IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card statement closed. I am happy to report that the original 80,000 IHG Points posted from the sign up bonus, plus the 20,000 IHG Points from the Chase Secure Message, plus an extra 5,000 IHG Points from adding an authorized user to my account. 108,003 IHG Points is a nice haul, even if they are only IHG Points. (P.S. do you like Chase’s new statement format, it looks pretty cool).
I signed into my IHG Rewards Club account and the 108,003 IHG Points were posted to my account and are ready to be spent. I don’t have a specific redemption in mind, but I tend to find good redemption options for IHG Points.
If you were matched to the 100,000 IHG Points offer and completed the $3,000 spending requirement, just make sure to follow up with Chase so that they can manually add the 20,000 IHG Points to your account. If you have any questions about this credit card or sending Secure Messages, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
Is the $50 automatic or does that credit after statement closes?
The $50 statement credit posts automatically. It posted to my account one week after my first purchase.
Ok. My statement closed on 9/12. If it doesn’t post then I’ll contact chase. 80k or 100k is supposed to post too since I’ve met $3k plus spend. But I think that will require actually messaging them.
Did you specifically sign up for the offer that included the $50 statement credit? If not, then the standard offer doesn’t include the $50 statement credit.
Yes. I did. SM-ed to match for 100,000. Rep confirmed in SM what I signed up for and said to reply to SM when I meet $3k spend. I’m thinking the reason it’s not automatic is because no charges in first statement billing cycle. I’m now in the second statement. I plan to SM if nothing is credited at the end. I think this is how it was with my first IHG card, the one with $49 annual fee
Gotcha, you should see everything by your next credit card statement. If not, keep following up with Chase until you get what you are owed.
Hey Grant, did you have the old IHG card or you closed it before applying? If you did, how long ago did you close it?
I still have my old Chase IHG Rewards Select Credit Card. You can have both at the same time and get the sign up bonus on both credit cards.
I have old ihg card. Wondering if you can refer yourself for 80k $2k spend, get referral bonus & ask chase to match to 100k offer 3k spend?
I don’t think that would work. I would just apply directly for the 100K offer to be safe.
I also did SM for the 100k. They had me SM back once I made the spend. My statement closed today with only the 20k, not the 80k. I reread the SM from them that said the 80k could take 6 to 8 weeks?? I met the spend about 6 days before statement closed. I’ve never had this happen.
That is very strange. I’ve never heard of an adjustment posting before the sign up bonus. Are you sure you spent $3,000, excluding the annual fee, $50 Statement Credit, returns etc?
Grant, i’m Looking at getting this card, if I reach the $2000 limit quick will I get my points fast? I’d like to use them in 3 weeks!?!? Hoping I get them right away… if I call them will they give me the points fast?
Usually the points will not post until after your first credit card statement posts, and most times it is more than 3 weeks later. You can try calling Chase and see if they can have your statement close faster, but there is no guarantee.
