My Experience Using the InKind App at 3 Restaurants in Seattle

Good morning everyone.  A few days ago, I spent a long weekend with my brother and dad in Seattle.  We went to a few Seattle Kraken hockey games, a few Seattle Mariners baseball games, went on a locks cruise to Lake Union, took off in a sea plane from Lake Union, and wandered around Woodland Park Zoo.  With all of those activities, we worked up big appetites.  Luckily, I had some InKind credit to use and there were many excellent restaurants in Seattle that worked with InKind.  If you are unfamiliar with InKind, please read My Experience with the InKind App to Pay Restaurant Bill, $25 Referral Credit, & $50 AMEX Offer.

In today’s post, I will highlight the restaurants I went to, the issue I encountered with splitting an InKind bill with my brother, and the $24 March Madness bonus I unlocked.  Since I tend to eat early and I like good deals, we did happy hour at Bourbon Steak, Tavolata, and The Victor Tavern.  There are many restaurants throughout Seattle that partner with InKind.  To see the whole list, go to the Explore tab, type in the city name, and then click the up arrow at the bottom of the screen.

Here are the 18 restaurants in Seattle (as of April 6).  Some restaurants have multiple locations around the city.

Bourbon Steak Seattle is a Michael Mina restaurant and they have happy hour Monday – Friday from 4pm – 6pm.  The restaurant is closed on Sunday.  We had the Black Truffle Burger and Duck Fat Fries.  Both were excellent!

Tavolata Belltown is part of the Ethan Stowell Restaurants group and they have happy hour daily from 4pm – 6pm.  We had the House Made Foccacia, Salumi Board, Rigatoni, Pappardelle, Spaghetti, and Zeppole.  Everything was excellent, but my favorite was the Rigatoni.

The Victor Tavern is also part of the Ethan Stowell Restaurants group and they have happy hour Monday – Friday from 4pm – 6pm.  They are closed on Saturday and Sunday.  We had the Rotisserie Chicken Caesar Salad, Victory Burger, and Prime Rib French Dip Sliders before heading over to the Seattle Mariners game.

A few weeks ago, InKind sent out an email in conjunction to March Madness.  I don’t remember registering for the promo, but apparently I scored a $24 bonus for eating at 3 InKind restaurants during March Madness.  Score!

The $24 bonus expires 45 days after being added to your account, so keep that in mind.  You can see the offer in the Wallet tab.

Random Thoughts about InKind

Every time I go to an InKind restaurant, I always worry that the app will crash or the payment feature won’t work and I will have to pay for the whole meal with my credit card.  Luckily, that scenario has never happened to me (knock on wood).

After I pay the bill with the InKind app, I always tell / show the waiter that I paid the bill with the InKind app and ask them to confirm that the bill has been paid in the POS system.  Luckily, every time I’ve asked, the bill has always been paid correctly.

Most of the time I feel like I am the only person in the restaurant using InKind and am constantly surprised that every waiter I have is familiar with InKind and how it works.

My brother and I split an InKind bill and the process didn’t work perfectly.  When you click the Split button, it asks you what portion of the bill you want to pay (25%, 33%, 50%, 66%, 75%). My brother had a few dollars of InKind credit left, so we decided that he would pay 33% and I would pay 66%.  After we submitted the payments, there was still $1.22 remaining.  Apparently the 66% portion needs to be changed to 67% so that the extra 1% won’t be left behind.  I am sure this will get fixed in the near future.  Either way, I was able to pay that remaining $1.22 from my InKind credit.

Lastly, I paid the tip portion of the InKind bill with my American Express Gold Card and earned 4x AMEX Membership Rewards Points.  Some of my older InKind tip portions did not earn 4x, so maybe this changed over the last few weeks or it may be restaurant specific.
