2 PSAs: Lowe’s Lowest Price Guarantee (Price Match) via Online Chat & Limit of 5 Gift Cards per Online Order

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  Last weekend, Laura and I decided to get a refrigerator for our garage.  After looking at a few options at our local Lowe’s store, we decided to buy the Frigidaire Garage-Ready 18.3-cu ft Top-Freezer Refrigerator (Stainless Steel).  The dimensions, price, and awesome reviews made the decision easy.  The refrigerator was on sale for $799, but I decided to double check the price on Home Depot to see if it was cheaper.  Much to my surprise, the same refrigerator (Frigidaire 30 in. 18.3 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator in Stainless Steel) was on sale for $718, a difference of $81.

I had a few Lowe’s gift cards that I purchased at a discount and Lowe’s was offering 3% cash back for appliances last weekend via online shopping portals, so I wanted to order through the Lowe’s website, but I wanted to have Lowe’s match Home Depot’s price.  In this post, I will show you how to the Lowe’s price match process worked and the 5 gift card limit per online order I encountered.

I googled “lowe’s price match” and found the Lowe’s Lowest Price Guarantee page.  The policy is pretty simple: “if you find a qualifying lower price on an exact item, we’ll match it.”  I went through an online shopping portal and then clicked on the Request a Price Match button.

The online chat window popped up and Leo, the Lowe’s automated assistant, got my request started.  I clicked the Check If Item Qualifies button and then Leo asked for the link to the competitor’s product and then the link to the Lowe’s product.  After Leo gathered that info, I was connected to a human rep.  Quick tip, do the online chat on your computer, not your phone – I got disconnected twice using chat on my phone.  On my computer, the online chat took about 30 minutes to get the order placed and it was much easier to enter gift card and credit card info on my computer than it would have been on my phone.

After the rep was able to verify that the refrigerators from Lowe’s and Home Depot were the same model and color, the rep manually created an order for me and discounted the price to match Home Depot’s price.  During the chat process, there was a secure window that allowed me to enter my Lowe’s gift card numbers and credit card information.  The rep did not see my gift card or credit card information.  A few minutes later, my order was placed.  It’s only been a few days since placing the order and I am still waiting for the online shopping portal to track my order.  Appliance orders take longer to process, so I am hoping the order tracked and I will see the cash back in the coming weeks.

I also wanted to share a tip with you that I wish I knew about using Lowe’s gift cards for online orders.  When you place an order online, you can only use up to 5 Lowe’s gift cards per order.  I had purchased several $50 Lowe’s gift cards when they were on sale, but wish I had purchased larger denomination gift cards for this situation.  Please learn from my mistake.  I am not sure if there is a limit to the number of Lowe’s gift cards you can use when you order over the phone or pay in-store.

For the last year I have had chronic problems with any Lowes order tracking, no matter the portal, payment choices, etc. They must have borrowed BA’s IT department.

I’ve had pretty good luck with Rakuten orders tracking. I’m not sure if ordering through the online chat will work, but it was worth a shot.
